One more question for the day...

Does anyone run/jog with their mini (or small medium)? What size, age, and how far can you go?

Thank you!!!!

The only way I'm running with or without my dogs is if Zombies are chasing us! But when we go to the park it seems like Katie can run forever. I would imagine that they could keep up for a while if you worked up to it. But I would be careful, especially with a younger dog. I think that type of running can be hard on their joints.

My 25# medium ALD walks with me usually 3mi in the morning and 2mi in the evening.  She needs lots of exercise , so we also play fetch and run at the dog parks.

I had to work up to this.  She is a year old.  I always heard that puppies need 5 minutes of exercise for every month old  2 times daily.  But medium sized breeds (like Zoey) shouldn't run until they reached about 9 months.  Like Stacy said, it has to do with their joints and still growing.  I only run when we pass a busy street or in spurts to elevate my HR, but I think if I wanted to run, she could keep up if I did it gradually.

When they play at the park, you can see that they run for awhile really hard, then plop down on the ground and take a short break.  When it is really hot while walking,  Zoey lies down under a shade tree until she decides she is ready again.lol

My slender 15 lb just 1 year old overheats. Even today after exercise she put her paws Into the water bowl to cool off. I. The summer she has a small plastic pool she jumps into. If she's really hot she sits to wet her bottom...and this is about 15 minutes of continuous running at top speed. Faster than a jog. I would not jog with her based on this.

Our sweetie had a little more energy to do this when she was younger - then again so did I, LOL. Maybe I will switch her dog food.  When she's up to it she can run a 5K but is more comfortable with a 1-2 miler at a jogging pace.  The main thing that interrupts us is her desire to frequently go to the bathroom, and mark or relieve herself.  The other is interacting with other dogs as we run.

She is also a really good companion for Pokemon Go walks and jogs (run a little bit, then stop, then run a little bit more to the next stop).
