Hefty fines and new charges against kennel owner

2:48 PM EDT, July 7, 2009

The owner of the former Almost Heaven Kennel has been fined $152,900 by the state and is facing more than 200 new charges stemming from the raid and closure of the operation last month.

The state Department of Agriculture says it has fined Derbe "Skip" Eckhart for each dog that he kept at the kennel at 4202 Chestnut St. in Upper Milford Township after he exhausted appeals of his 2009 kennel license denial.

Chris Ryder, an agriculture department spokesman, said the department fined Eckhart $100 a day for seven days for all 216 dogs that should have been removed between June 16 and June 23.

In addition, the department fined Eckhart $100 for each of 17 dogs that it says were transferred out of the kennel after June 6 without the state's approval.

Eckhart was charged this week with 216 counts of violating the state dog law because he failed to remove 216 dogs from the kennel after the his appeal period ended, according to a complaint filed at District Court in Emmaus.

He faces an additional 17 counts of violating a cease and desist order by transferring 17 dogs out of the kennel without approval of the state.

Under the terms of his license denial, Eckhart was not allowed to transfer animals without approval of a dog warden.

Eckhart has 30 days to pay the fine, but also has 15 days to appeal the penalty.

Wonder where he transferred the breeeding stock to?
Poor babies...they were ALMOST saved : (

Skip got a nice fine...hope it stops him from setting up his business in a nearby state.
Nothing stops cockroaches, not even a nuclear blast. We need to educate people not to buy dogs from pet stores and puppy mills. When their market disappears, so will they.
I'll bet there's more than 17 dogs, also. This man is a total creep and I hope he and his associates rot in hell.
LOL day old news...what happened today..do ya know or care...lol
There is something seriously wrong with you. Stay out of my discussions:

He raises FIFTEEN breeds of dogs, FOUR breeds of cats and who knows how many different birds! That should set off an alarm for ANYone! That's a MILL by any decent human being's standards. Sheeesh!
If you are referrring to Deep Run Kennels ..Yes that is exactly the case....Nice to know that one of the attorneys on Denise's case is of such low intelligence that he apparently bought his dog from that place.....That makes me feel really secure about his abilities to prosecute an animal cruelty case....lol
Don't forget the monkeys!
According to state dog warden records things do not add up here....if you research the inspection reports of Almost Heaven you will see in on 4/23/2009 Eckhart had 367 dogs 269 were adults, and 98 pups, on 5/22/09 Eckhart had 292 dogs? 215 were adults and 77 pups, on June 12, 09 Eckhart had 260 dogs? 208 were adults and 52 pups, The paper says there were a total of 17 dogs missing, SOMEBODY needs to redo their math...more like 32 dogs missing if you take 5/22 at 292 - 6/12 at 260 leaves you missing 32 dogs...hmmmm where are they all...
Yeah, I wonder.......
We know exactly where every one of those dogs went to and so does PA dog law.....
