So this has been one heck of a week. Floods in Nashville - friends having houses destroyed, and now Peri has kennel cough (we think - called emergency vet and that is what they think - taking her in tomorrow).

We took her to doggy daycare Friday and they had lots of dogs from the other daycare that was flooded. So new dogs, possibly lack of vet records, you get the picture. Peri was vaccinated for bortitella, but apparently, has come down with the cough. Throwing up all day after these crazy coughs that sound TERRIBLE. We are so worried, but emergency vet said tomorrow would be fine to take her to our regular doctor.

My question: she is hungry. Going around wanting to drink TONS of water and will eat anything she can find. But she coughs like crazy and then throws up more when we give her anything at all.

Do I give her water when she wants it? Even though she will throw it up after coughing?

Do I give her dinner tonight???

I tried to do a search but we are a little panicked and are hoping you can help.

Many thanks!

Glad you both caught it early!! I remember only too well how Mickey coughed for months since he was never treated before we rescued him.
Get well wishes to Peri, Guiness and Murphy. Hopefully all of you will feel much, much better real, real soon!
Oh boy, guys!!! Our good wishes for healthier days ahead for ALL of you... how does a dog get this??? Is it only transmitted and passed from an infected dog? Tori's due for her vet check up... I'm almost afraid to bring her there if this is going around. Can you tell I'm a bit of a germ freak?! You should see me with my KIDS! (the human ones!) - LOL
Don't panic about Tori, Shelly!!!! Honestly, all you can do is get the bordetella nasal spray and hope they don't get it. In our case, I take Peri to daycare frequently - they had some different dogs there this week because of the flooding. I think that is probably the culprit, but I am not mad at my daycare. AS my vet said "it's kind of like putting your kids in daycare, they come home with sicknesses because they are exposed to so many different kinds of dogs". Very true, even though I don't know about the kid part yet!

Peri is already feeling MUCH better. She slept in our room last night as usual - not one peep. She coughed once this morning. So the meds are working, but I also think it was a weak case AND we caught it early.
:O)
Soooo glad to hear Peri is doing much better! So sorry to hear about the flooding! This year there has been so many crazy, freak things happening.
I know my Vet is very careful. If she can safely prescribe over the phone for Kennel Cough, she does. If not, she has the dogs come in a side entrance, so they're never in the waiting room. You might ask how your Vet handles dogs that are potentially infectious and whether or not they're allowed in the waiting room.
We were put in a side room immediately. They also told me if my sister or mom's dog comes down with it, for them to just call and they will have a prescription ready for them. They use the same vet.
