Our dermatologist wants us to use it for underlying fungal infection which is to begiven along w/ Simplicef for bacterial infection. Regular vet refuses to dispense it believing it is too risky even w/ baseline liver function tests. Unfortunately our dermatologist's office is an hour away. Have you guys used ketakonozole? We have once before and Cooper tolerated it.

Thank you!

I had to use KetoChlor on JD last summer, which contains 1% ketoconazole along with chlorhexidine; the KetoChlor was mixed 50/50 with Genesis Triancinolone Acetonide and applied topically to his feet. He had an infection and inflammation from his usually August ragweed flare. I had to wear rubber gloves to apply it, but I think that was because of the steroids. Anyway, he was on a fairly heavy dosage (3x a day for a week, then 2x/day, then once, then every other day, etc.) for weeks, and I didn't notice any ill effects. His dermatologist felt it was a better way to go than oral steroids.

Thank you!
The dermatologist probably knows what the risks are with it more than the vet. Just like the pharmacist usually knows the truth to the questions that my Dr. just shrugs off as "not usual"
