Haley has an obsession with lawnmower droppings. I'm not referring to loose freshly cut grass but the big globs that fall out from under the deck when the grass/weeds are lush and thick in the spring. Yesterday DH cut grass and I had to keep my eye on Haley every second to keep him from gobbling these droppings up. I did catch him with a mouth full; pulled one out and found another on it's way down his throat! I am real concerned about these globs causing a blockage so I spent a couple of hours scouring the yard for them with Haley on the porch to keep him out of trouble. I still have other parts of the yard to check.

Will these lawnmower droppings cause an obstruction? Anyone have any idea how to stop Haley from eating them. We have two acres of yard within the e-fence and it is not possible to find every compacted glob of grass.

We bag our grass but both dogs have started "dumpster diving" by getting into the bags to munch on the grass.  Yuck!!

I doubt they will cause blockage but they are not good for your lawn : ) You should not mow when the lawn is wet, let it go too long or mow too short. A mulching lawn mower is good for the lawn and the environment. I never bag any clippings!

"Mowing grass too short causes stress, discourages deep  root growth, and results in rapid loss of soil moisture. Letting grass grow too tall causes excess grass clippings that can smother the turf. Raise the mowing height during the hot and dry season. A higher setting reduces moisture loss and encourages deep root growth.

Keep your mower blades sharp and clean, and mow when the grass is dry. Mow over leaves so they will decompose along with grass clippings. Collect leaves and grass clippings for mulching or composting if they are too heavy or wet for grass-cycling.

We recommend mowing your lawn at a height of 3-4" high during the Spring / Summer.

Last cut in the Fall should be 2 1/2" high.

Optimal watering times is between 3am to 10am. Secondary would be at 4pm to 6:30pm."

In a perfect world!

See my new discussion in the Garden Group.

I had to go to town and took a copy of above photo by Haley's vet.  Her comment about him eating this clumps was "not good".

That's my answer too-maybe if they weren't so big!! Those are huge! DH is cutting the grass right now so we may be right there with you!

Good luck!
