I have long vaccinated my dogs for leptospirosis. Apparently this year it is especially important in NJ but probably elsewhere as well.

My dogs get vaccinated for this as well!

Is this a yearly vaccination?  I've never looked into it.

Yes, yearly.

Thanks F.  I will look into it with my vet!

We have never vaccinated against this.  Now I guess I need to use your link to see if we should. Nope, it's rare in California.

Ask your vet if they are seeing increases in the number of cases in your area.

Ugh.  I stopped at rare.....

We always get lepto vaccine. Our cottage life in the summer dictates it.

We work with a horse farm and it is extremely difficult to deal with leptospirosis.  We have a few mares with what is called moon blindness caused by the disease and have had mares abort colts because of it.  It is costly to keep them up to date on immunization but necessary.  Because of the issue there we always give shots to my two girls to make sure we don't carry anything in to them and they do not get to go on an outing to that farm with us either.  According to information from the vet for the horse farm a good rain washes it away but the minute an infected animal urinates on a field or paddock it is there again and of course gets in the water supply as well (all water for the horses is piped from local ponds).

Interesting.

No, we have never vaccinated for it.  Our vet says not necessary in eastern Washington state.

My dogs are vaccinated annually for lepto.
