Nervous momma here, just looking for input. Gavin has never been sick before so I have no prior experience. This morning he was very lethargic. Had to pull him along during his morning walk and no energy since. He is drinking and taking ice, but not eating (which in itself is not entirely unusual), peeing regularly but no poo. His nose is moist but warmish. His ears are warm. He still responds when we call him. It has been very hot and humid here, but he is inside in the air mostly. Do dogs get "bugs" occasionally and if so how long do I wait before seeing a vet. He received his flea/tick treatment on Monday. Thanks in advance.
Update 3: Well, what a night. I was so worried about Gavin that I stayed up all night watching him. He was a very sick boy. But what a good boy – even in his compromised state, he had the wherewithal to stumble down the stairs to the door in the middle of the night and ring his bells to go outside to throw up. *sigh* Anyways DH got him to the vet this morning. He had a fever and white blood cell count was elevated. The vet felt around but couldn’t find any tender spots. Fecal was negative. He gave him meds to settle his stomach, anti-inflamatories and anti-biotics as well as some canned food to start feeding him a bit at a time to get his strength back. He is got so thin, so quickly. So right now he is on his first course of meds and has taken a couple teaspoons full of food as well as water and ice. Lethargy continues – that part is really unsettling for me. We appreciate everyone’s good wishes. I will keep you posted.
Now that he's on the meds it's just a matter of a little time. Sounds like you're keeping him hydrated which is the important thing. Keep the updates coming....
Awe... poor boy!!! I knew you would be up all night and as a matter of fact, I thought of you guys throughout the night as well (don't know why I couldn't sleep...)....That sounds exactly how Tori was - they could not pinpoint anything either.. I don't know if you remember - but she perked up on the meds and seemed better, but once off she got mopey again and needed a second round, and then thank GOD she was fine!!! Glad you got him to the vet... he is on his way to recovery now.... try and get some much needed rest! Hugs to you all!
