Nervous momma here, just looking for input.  Gavin has never been sick before so I have no prior experience.  This morning he was very lethargic.  Had to pull him along during his morning walk and no energy since.  He is drinking and taking ice, but not eating (which in itself is not entirely unusual), peeing regularly but no poo.  His nose is moist but warmish.  His ears are warm.  He still responds when we call him.  It has been very hot and humid here, but he is inside in the air mostly.  Do dogs get "bugs" occasionally and if so how long do I wait before seeing a vet.  He received his flea/tick treatment on Monday.  Thanks in advance.

Update 4: What a difference 8 hours makes. Only one round of meds and the change is remarkable. Gavin ate a whole can of food today as well as a biscuit he sussed out - untouched from yesterday. He is brighter and nosier and has even gone to his toy basket to pull some of his favorite items out. Currently he is relentlessly pursuing us to engage with him in a game of indoor fetch. Thank goodness for the quick rebound. We are still encouraging him to take it easy though. Once again thanks for all of your positive vibes and good thoughts. I have been a bit of a wreck!
I'm so glad to hear Gavin is feeling better! Now you can relax and get some rest!
So happy for Gavin! And for MOMMY TOO! Gotta' love those meds! Now - YOU get some much needed rest! Bet you sleep like a baby tonight!
Wonderful news! Hope you all get a good night's sleep tonight!!
They really are just like kids. Glad Gavin is perking up.
Hey Gavin, great to hear you are feeling better. It's no fun when you are sick. You have a great Mom to take such good care of you.
Update 5: Gavin's energy has steadily increased and he seemed nearly back to his normal self. but I still felt concern because aside from a poop Friday morning, nothing else. So at 11:30 pm Saturday night, after several walks, food, water, chase games, fetch, runs etc.. to try and get things "moving," he finally had a very small BM. I was still not really happy as I had 'obstruction' on my mind. This afternoon however he "produced" in spades and I felt alot better. As I went to pick up it and last night's meager effort, I noticed there was something in last night's. It was an intact elastic band. Could it be that a rubber band could have caused all of his problems??
I don't know, but I hope so! That would be the end of this! I'm so glad he's feeling better!
WOW! I BET that was it!!! You are so lucky it came out! i heard horror stories about elastic bands being swallowed (just like screws and corn cobs - LOL).... I am ALWAYS on poop examination detail! You NEVER know with Tori.. she's always getting into something! I bet gavin's disposition changes drastically now! I don't know how - or WHY they get these things down, but just the smallest of a "do not eat" item can cause such havoc to their system! HOORAY for Gavin!!!!!
What happened when they swallowed the elastic bands?
The ER vet also told me (when tori swallowed my scrunchie) that the elastic could (somehow) twist around her intestines. i can't imagine how it would actually get around the intestine, but I didn't bother questioning her at the time.
When someone tells us something could get wrapped around the intestine we tend to picture it wrapping around the outside of the intestine but the intestine is a bunch of loops and turns so what actually happens is the foreign materal wraps around one of the loops on the inside.
