Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

Trying to decide on what mix of Goldendoodle we would like.  Can you give me an idea how much hair your doodle sheds and if you have F1 or F1B? Does it shed when you pet it, only with brushing, or not at all. I know the genetics factor may make it difficult to predict. We haven't been around a lot of Goldendoodles, so can't really base off of experience.

Our previous cavapoo only shed a tiny bit of hair with brushing, but had much more curly poodle like hair. We are leaning toward a slightly wavy coat type if we can find one, rather than such a poodle curly type. However, would prefer to not have hair shedding out with petting. I don't mind it with grooming. Is that realistic?

Myla is an F-1 standard doodle - her hair is very soft and wavy, unless she's wet and then it's a very soft curl. I don't say this often on this website because I know it is totally uncharacteristic for a doodle but she doesn't shed at all and we don't brush her - she has always hated brushing.  We do have a few dust-bunnies in the corners of our family room but very seldom.  We do clip her ourselves and usually every eight weeks.  We do find that she mats in her groin area during the summer if we don't keep that hair clipped short but that is because of her swimming so much - it seems the fine hair in that area twirls around.  We can work out the mats with our fingers while she is laying beside us.  In the winter we tend to let her hair grow longer but keep her legs and feet clipped short so that the hair doesn't mat when she is snowshoeing.  We are so very lucky and spoiled.  Our last doodle loved being brushed which was very lucky for us as she would have matted terribly if we didn't keep up with the brushing!

Wow you are lucky! She is adorable. How big is she being a standard?

She will be five years old in March and she has weighed 63 pounds since she was a year old.  We think she's adorable too :) and we absolutely know how lucky we are.

Love the shot of her in the snow....63 pounds is right in the sweet-spot, though I guess it's a bit larger for a female ?  Someone told me he heard of male Goldendoodles (but maybe it was a Labradoodle ?) over 90 pounds ?

Here's Teddy, my Toy Goldendoodle at about 9 weeks. His coat is the curliest I've seen him:

Here he is a few days ago, looking more like a Golden Retriever than a Poodle:

And here he is today after a grooming, his hair fully-blown out and looking NOTHING like a Poodle:

Cute! His coat has changed esp in color it looks like. I think most all lighten quite a bit as they get older.

Yes, Valery, it's most certainly lighter.  If I included photos from the breeder when he was 4 or 5 weeks old -- if you can call what he had a 'coat' -- it's even darker reddish brown.
