Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum
Hey all, My husband and I are looking for a doodle friend for our goldendoodle, Dexter! We just had a baby girl, she's 8 months old. We would like to add another doodle to the household and cheer up our Dexter! We are in Northern Idaho/Spokane, WA area. If you know someone near by, please let me know. We are willing to drive and pick up. We are looking for a pup or a 2 or 3 year old.

My husband and I keep tossing around adding another dog. That way we would each have one. As it is we fight over Annabelle. Well fight might be too strong a word, it's all in good fun. We keep looking for that perfect dog that is already housebroken. So far nothing has fallen in our lap. We would love another doodle.
Well, my breeder of choice lives in that area and is retiring soon. She has Designer Doodles in Deer Park and I am getting a sheepadoodle from her this summer. I have been planning this for two years and she has been training a couple of OESs for herding. She has a phantom poodle and has bred them. The pups are due May 22. Maybe not the pup for you, but I am very excited about getting one of these puppies. I had a phantom goldendoodle who died a couple of years ago but he was a marvelous dog. Here is a photo of a sheepadoodle from the poodle days in Carmel a couple of years ago.
Lynda, is the lady you are getting the pup from named Sharon? We got Dexter from a breeder in Deer Park, and her name is Sharon. She told us she will be doing the Sheepadoodles soon, and that was 3 years ago. So cute!!!!!!
Congratulations on the new baby :-)
My oldest was 8 months old when we added a puppy to our household (we already had one adult doodle and two other dogs had recently passed). It actually went okay, but honestly, two dogs and two kids turns out to be super HARD. I wouldn't do it again, even though I love both my dogs. I probably would wait if I had to do it over. I know you just have one child, but if you decide to have more, it definitely makes things tricky. Two dogs on leash, stroller, car rides, travel. Not saying it can't be done. Others do it just fine. But it is challenging. So if your main reason is to give a friend to your dog, I would advise you to wait. Your dog may actually LOVE being the only dog and have lots of time to bond with your daughter. No hurry to add to the pack. On the other hand if YOU feel like you can't live without 2 dogs and have plenty of extra time and money to spare...go for it ;-)
Also most rescue organizations will not adopt out to families with young kids. I know that is true of both of the big doodle rescue organizations. You might be able to find an adult doodle some other way, but slim chances.
Great, thank you so much for the input! We definitely need to figure out if it's something we really want to do. Also, I wouldn't want to hinder any chance of Dexter bonding with our daughter. I like your points. Thanks so much, Adina! :)
Yesterday I had my grandson for a couple of hours unexpectedly. It just so happened to be during Annabelle's vet appt. I thought how hard could it be to wrangle a 3 year old and dog. All I can say is, glad I didn't have 2 dogs at the time. At least I got to experience this so I know that when I do have 2 dogs, I will not be bringing a child with me. Actually I won't be bringing him with me again with just Annabelle. Maybe when they are all yours, you have a system.
