Hi Jody,

You sound like a perfect person to rescue.  Here are a few more hints to help you.

Search Petfinder.com constantly.  So many dogs in shelters who are overlooked and totally mis-marked!  Many shelters have no idea what they are dealing with and they really don't care. They just list. Doodles can be labeled Standard Poodle Mix, Wheaton, Old English Sheepdog, and just yesterday, I clearly saw a Goldendoodle labeled as a Yorkie and Standard Poodle Mix.  No joke. It was not even close.

1.  go to www.petfinder.com

2. type in your zip code, then pick a breed: Poodle, Standard Poodle, Old English Sheepdog, Wheaton. NOTE: there is no such breed as a doodle, so petfinder will not give you this option.  Doodles are a mix of something and a poodle.  So, this is why I started with Standard Poodle.  Leave the age, sex, and, size alone.

Often this is the simplest way.

Using your zip code, I received many links, by choosing Standard Poodle

The rescues do this also and have volunteers search pages and pages of information country wide to find Doodles in Need.  Keep an eye out on the DRC Link for this information.

Then in the toolbar select REGIONAL LISTINGS

While there, sign up to foster. This may also help you find a perfect fit for your pack and... you will be helping a dog in need or help someone else who wishes to adopt

Yes, I know.   Be patient.   One day there is nothing, the next week the skies are raining dogs who are in terrible need.

Usually rescues require fences, but those dogs aren't in danger of losing their life. The kill shelters often have fewer requirements. I think.

I found Roxy on adoptapet.com

You do have to be diligent about checking several times through out the day because when a doodle is posted, they go fast.  I wasn't under any time frame and knew when the right one was posted, I would move mountains to pick him/her up.  Roxy was posted at about 10:30 pm.  I quickly filled out the application and was approved the next day.  I drove from NJ to Ohio to pick up our girl and it's been happily ever after ever since.

I agree.  I wish I could take them all.  We were lucky to find her at 8 weeks old.  She was rescued from a puppy mill.  I'm happy to hear you rescued your girls too :)

These two are adorable and need to be adopted together

While I sympathize with wanting a certain breed, for example, there are  many that just would not fit my home, I do see, today 242,000 dogs in need of a home!  TODAY

If you want to add to your pack, dogs are waiting for you, just miles away. I know you want a Doodle, and I have exhausted my suggestions but I see so many wonderful DOGS out there that would love you no matter if you had a fence or a cement yard. They just don't care. They want a home. I hope you get everything you want and need and I hope that the 1/4 of a million homeless dogs do too

As a rescuer/animal activist yourself, I'm sure you are familiar with the PASSION that goes along with it.  I like to believe that what you see/hear here on DK is PASSION, not PREACHING!  :o)

Oh Jody, time out!  Sheri can speak for herself, but I just have to say that Lucy and Annabelle's Mom is the last person deserving of this comment.  She stepped up to foster Honey - a young "special needs" goldendoodle  about to be euthanized--for several months --- until Honey was ready to have surgery. She and her husband drove from state to state to make this possible and caring for Honey was demanding-- all while grieving for their dear Sophie who they had just recently lost --and getting a puppy that they had made arrangements for before Honey's situation become known.  Not many of us could have done what Sheri and Mike did.  Now thanks to Sheri and Mike, Honey is healthy and in a wonderful forever home.

Rescue vs breeders is a controversial topic as you well know since you've rescued. People get passionate about the issue but we try not to get personal.  Everyone here is trying to get to know you and help you out while giving you the guidelines of the forum. You might want to get to know us before assuming the worst.

Amen!  Thanks Cheryl!

Looks like I missed something.   She left DK forever.   I suppose it was once again, not what someone wanted to hear.   I spent a lot of time looking for dogs in her zip code ~02151   Actually, I spent too much time looking for a dog for her last night as I should have been planning for my anniversary today.  I think several hours were spent on this discussion alone.

What I found was so many adorable dogs.  Funny, I had seen those same dogs last month when someone else asked the very same question.  Sad.

Sad indeed.  Thanks for caring, and enjoy your anniversary.
