Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum
We have a two year old Labradoodle with some special needs and we feel like we are unable to meet her needs. We are looking for a good home for her in the Las Vegas area. She is full-sized and white. She has an allergy to wheat. We feed her twice a day and she is still to thin. She is full of energy and plays with our other dog but when she gets into anything she is allergic to her ears flame up and she starts scratching. We feed her an antihistamine every night that seems to help but it also makes her energy level go up. If you are interested please feel free to call me at 702-767-9616 or email me at caldwellinlv@aol.com I can send pictures if you are interested. We are not looking for money just want to make sure she will get the care and love she deserves.

It's complicated. It isn't just a money issue, although that is a factor; it's also that the testing and treatment also involve a lot of time, preparation and work for a few months. A foster would have to be able to do all that. I have never heard of a foster dog undergoing testing or treatment for AD, and in fact when AD is known to exist, many rescues feel the dog is unadoptable. It's like severe aggression issues. Sure, the right owner could get an evaluation, training, spend a lot of time and money and work their butt off (think Jane with Murphy), but a foster couldn't do that. And the dog really should be covered by insurance before being diagnosed.
We don't know that this dog has AD of course, but these are things that need to be considered. Based on my fairly extensive knowledge and experience with allergies in doodles, IMO, the chances that the only issue this dog has is a wheat allergy is slim to none. The vet's opinion that it's a wheat allergy means very little to me, considering that he bred and sold this dog to someone and now apparently refuses to help rehome her.
I would very much like to see a photo of her, wouldn't you?
Thanks, Karen. I wish I would win the lottery and could help all these dogs, including this one. I would love to see a picture of this sweet Doodle.
I also wanted to add that it also depends on having a foster available in a particular area, and how experienced that foster is with certain kinds of issues. We have fosters who can deal with dogs who have certain kinds of behavioral issues, for example, and others who can't. Some fosters work full-time, others don't. An owner assisted rehome is sometimes an option, where the dog goes directly from the owner to the adopter; but sometimes it's better for all concerned to have the dog's behavioral and/or health issues evaluated by a foster home.
I agree that this dog needs a new home.
Andy, I am coming in late to this discussion and I feel sorry for your dog, too. It is obvious that you do not want to meet her needs and in my opinion, the dog should be re-homed. No dog should live outside. I love my two dogs so very much and would do anything for them, and I swear to you, I would let them go to any one of the fosters that work for the DRC if god forbid, something happened that I could no longer care for them. These fosters share their stories all the time on DK and all of them go above and beyond what they have to for a dog that is not theirs. They take dogs into their homes with all kinds of problems and work to find them the very best home, so that the dog never has to start over again. You came on DK for advice and the best advice anyone can give you is to let your sweet dog go into Doodle Rescue (DRC, IDOG) and let them find a committed and loving home for her. You have made some very wrong decisions regarding this dog, now it is time to make a right one.
Andy, I am a volunteer with IDOG and I highly recommend that you go to their website ( www.idog.biz) and look around. I check references for both fosters and potential adopters and I can assure you that everything in our power is done to make sure that the dogs are well loved and find a great forever home. At the website you can see the application form that is filled out by potential adopters. I urge you to contact IDOG (or DRC) and discuss your situation with the people in charge and see what your options are. I commend you for wanting to do what you feel is in the best interest of your doodle.
Andy, I am the Founder and President of Doodle Rescue Collective Inc. Please feel free to call me directly at 917-439-6403. We are happy to help in any way that we can.
Both IDOG and DRC are foster-based national rescues that together have saved and placed over 2000 doodles since IDOG's inception in 2006 and DRC's inception in 2008. Both DRC and IDOG are committed to providing safe refuge, care and quality forever homes for Labradoodle and Goldendoodle dogs in need and providing support and educational resources for doodle owners, aspiring owners and doodle enthusiasts world wide. I want too assure you that both organizations have an incredible amount of experience with these dogs and take tremendous care with their rescue and placement. Our commitment to these animals does not end at placement. We are there for our adopters and most importantly for the doodle for the entire lifetime of the dog. Please feel free to visit both organizations websites for more detailed information about our work and our mutual commitment to these animals . The links are below.
Andy, we would all like to hear back from you to let us know what you have decided to do. We all hope that you have got in touch with Jacquie and that you have made the right decision for this Doodle. Here on DK we become very emotionally attached to dogs in need. You came here for help, perhaps it wasn't exactly the type of help you had in mind but the very best advice was given to you, please do take it.
Andy, why don't you try posting in the Las Vegas Group here on Doodle Kisses? I was out of town this last week and missed your initial post. We have a great group of people here in town and there are always some that are looking to adopt..... or put you in touch with a a no kill rescue....
