Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

Hi friends. My name is Lucinda. I'm part of a family of four. My husband Peter and I have two little boys Gray and Magnus. They are 6 and 3. We also have Sooty, our fluffy black cat. As I wrote in my bio, we had the most wonderful Goldendoodle, Anna Nicole. (AKA Nanners) She was the BEST doggie. I had wanted a dog for as long as I could remember. My parents never allowed it. Finally at 27 years old I got my puppy, and she was my shadow. Tragically we lost her at the young, young age of 3. She had a complication of Lyme disease and fell into kidney failure. Within one week of diagnosis she was gone. It was the worst week of my life.

Cut to 7 months later, we are really hoping to add another Doodle to our family. We are home a lot, but would rather bypass the super young puppy phase, plus we'd like to rescue a dog in need of a home. We live in Maryland, outside of D.C. If anyone hears of a cat and kid loving Doodle, that is somewhat close (like not in Texas or California) could you please keep us in your thoughts? There only seem to be a few on the Doodle Rescue and they are either pending or super far. Doodles on Pet Finder go incredibly fast too, and are never near our part of the country!

Thanks so much for any help, we really appreciate it. Have a great night, and bury your face in your Doodle's head tonight for me. I miss that soft, curly fluff. :'-)

I think it also depends on what you are considering "far". It is not unusual for adopters to drive quite a long distance, often staying overnight somewhere, to get a dog. A large percentage of our dogs are adopted sight unseen. But we have had dogs available in MD, and we often have dogs available in VA. You should get an application submitted before you even see a dog you think is a good fit, because the demand in some areas is much greater than the number of doodles available in rescue.

And it also depends on how flexible you are regarding coat, color, sex, size, etc.

I adopted my own labradoodle from a local private shelter. I had submitted an application several weeks earlier, and when he was relinquished, they called me. His picture never even made it onto Petfinder.
