Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum
Hello all,
What a great site! I plan to read and learn as much as I can here. I am excited to find an online community for those who loves these dogs!
I do not have a doodle but am looking for a 1 year or older doodle to adopt. I currently have a non-doodle and love dog ownership, and a doodle would be a great companion, as they'll be able to join in similar activities and be able to keep up with my guy!
I do not have a fenced yard, but the way my house is set up, a dog would have to get out two or more doors in order to get outside, and in all honesty, that's just not happening! Nonetheless, we are looking into adding a fenced area in the spring.
It breaks my heart to see so many adoptable doodles in places like CA that so desperately need a home; I wish I wasn't so far away. I am in the process of inquiring to doodle breeders in PA and neighboring states if they have any adult doods up for adoption or learn of any. My dog must meet the new dog and get along well. I live near the center of the state but frequently travel to the Reading/Pottstown/Lehigh Valley area to visit friends and family (always with the dog in the car!)
If anybody has any advice for me, I'd appreciate it! My husband and I spend many hours a day with our dog, and love being outdoors.

Have you checked out the Doodle Rescue Collective and IDOG Rescue dogs that are listed on the Home page for DoodleKisses. I know the DRC normally has dogs in the PA/NJ/CT area.
Ann, see this page on Petfinders. There is a doodle rescue in Potsville. http://www.petfinder.com/petdetail/20856375
Thank you Sandy, as I would love to meet that dog, but I don't think they will consider me because I do not have a fully enclosed fence :-( He sounds like he could be perfect with my dog though.
Lucy&Sophies Mom, I emailed an app to IDOG and they said they do not have any ready for adoption but have my info. I've been checking out DRC and they do not have anyone in PA, and I think the one in NJ they won't adopt long distance.
Any advice is appreciated, and I will keep looking! If anyone knows of a dog, please contact me. Thank you so much!
Odie is an Owner Assisted Rehome and the family wants him to have a fenced yard. He is a high energy dog and likes to run.
Ann, it wouldn't hurt to contact the rescue and talk to them. You may be what they are looking for..:) Good luck!
Take your time... DRC will connect the dogs in need to the suitable families, so your application will always be looked at. Also, if you are going to adopt the rescue, may be after the Holiday would be better anyway. So that the dog will not have to experience the addisional confusion of busy Holiday and you may be able to help him/her without Holiday stress....
I'd much prefer to bring a new dog home after the holidays, even if I found the perfect one right now. It would be better for the dog, and us. We have a lot of traveling to do Christmas Eve...
I plan to be patient, even if it takes months. It has to be the right dog. I know he/she is out there somewhere! And we will give him/her a great home, whenever it happens. We're both home all day, we love spending time with our current dog, and he wants a buddy! I feel much like when my husband and I were trying to conceive our second child and it wasn't as easy as the first time. Same here with our dogs.
Hi Lynne! Yes, I have not heard anything from the family, so I am assuming that even though I'd be willing to add a fence, whatever cost that gets to be, I am not being considered. I've pleaded my case, and I just have to move on and keep searching.
I know, Ann. I pleaded your case, too. Maybe if you are willing to add the fence after adoption you should do it anyway. Many rescues will require it. And who knows, maybe Odie will still be available by the time it is finished. Problem is, if you haven't started it, the ground will be frozen soon and you will have to wait until Spring.
Oodles of Doodles also has a Cockapoo available in PA: http://www.petfinder.com/petdetail/21575831
Scooter and Tuck in NJ: http://www.petfinder.com/petdetail/20795182
And Holly in NJ: http://www.petfinder.com/petdetail/21306782
But all are asking for Fenced Yards.
Good Luck in your search.
Thanks so much for any help. I know the obstacle is the fence, or lack thereof, and will talk to my husband about it again tonight.
I did see those listings. I also saw Dodger in NJ too. Do you think since he's listed as "medium to high energy needs" and not high energy that there might be a chance for me? Is it worth it to apply for him? I have such a high energy breed now, medium to high sounds pretty good ;-)
I'm Sorry, Ann, Dodger needs a fenced yard, too. He loves being outside in the yard. The obstacle you are facing with the lack of fence, is your major drawback. These dogs have no lack of applications and given the choice between 2 equal applicants, but one has a fenced yard, I will go with the yard, I'm afraid. As will many other rescues. Oodles of Doodles does have a policy to try to take it on a case by case basis, but honestly, the majority will require one as the safety of the dog is one of the top priorities of any rescue.
Ann, if you aren't dead set on a labradoodle or goldendoodle, I know that poomix rescue (http://www.poomixrescue.com/dog_search_results.php?&sort=dogsta...) has a lot of different and very adorable poodle mixes available for adoption all across the country.
Thanks for the poomix rescue suggestion! I will check that out next. I am not dead set on a ld or gd but I do want a bigger dog, which those two mixes lends itself to.... I've even seen a shephadoodle hahaha. Ideally the perfect pooch is someone 45-65 lbs., very athletic and who likes to run run run, as we are looking into getting involved in agility with our present dog, we like to bike and play frisbee, swim, etc.
