Hi everyone!

I was wondering if anyone has experienced a loss of lower eyelid pigmentation with their doodles. Lucy just turned 1 year old, and as I'm sure most doodle owners are, I'm very keenly aware of everything about her.

She goes to a daycare on days when I am at school for a long time, and about a month ago, I noticed when she came back from daycare (definitely was not there that morning when I dropped her off) that she was missing some of her dark pigmentation under one of her eyes. There was nothing noticeably different about her eye and it did not seem like it was in pain, so I ruled out severe trauma of any kind, but I was wondering if something l like this could happen from light trauma or abrasion?

Like I said, it's been a little over a month now since I've noticed it, and it hasn't changed much. I read online that some dogs have changing pigmentation as they grow older, but I thought it was strange that it seemed to happen in the span of a day. If it were trauma, how long might it take for the pigment to come back?

Would appreciate any thoughts and opinions! I know it's not a big deal as there is obviously nothing wrong with her eye, but I was simply curious about whether anyone else has had similar experiences or stories to share!

My Jack has this, but he's almost 12 years old. I'm not even sure when I first noticed it, but I think he was quite a bit older than Lucy. I don't think it's anything to be concerned about; you might ask your vet about it.

Thanks for your response Karen! I'm definitely not concerned about it, but was curious if anyone had experienced something similar :)

I have no experience with eyelids but Tara's nose color changed about that age from black to brown.

Hanna had a spot on her lower lip that turned pink/lost pigmentation and I had the vet check it but said it was ok....there was no underlying mass or difference in texture/thickness from the rest of her lip.  Vet said that happens sometimes.  It eventually returned to normal black color.  (I was wondering if she bit her lip or if it was a play-mishap from daycare too??)

Thanks Marni! Appreciate you sharing your story. There's definitely nothing different about her eyelid except for the black top layer (?) being stripped to show the pink. If you don't mind me asking, do you remember approx. how long it took for the color to return to normal?

I think it was a good month or more before it turned black again

This happened to Cooper's BFF, a Lab.  I noticed it one day and we couldn't figure out what happened.  His owner was so worried it will change color the way his nose did.  I think about two weeks after we noticed it, it became black and normal again.  Hope this is the case for your doodle!

Thanks for your reply Jenny! It's been over a month now for Lucy but fingers crossed it changes back, haha. Hopefully it's not anything to worry about!
