That is so sad.
Awful. I feel bad for the dog and the child.
Yup...this is it. I tried to find the interview they did with the parents of the child...but I couldn't find it. I'm guessing lawyers had that pulled pronto!
What is also different is them saying the man allowed the child to pet the dog. It was a different story in news the day it happened...they said then, that the child approached the dog without the man's knowledge. I have no idea what to believe. Whatever, it is very sad all the way around.
I was wondering about that part of the story too. And the parent had some responsibility as well. Who would let their 3 year old approach and pet a strange dog especially one the size on an Akita? Yes, it is very sad for everyone.
That is horrible. :(
So sad for all involved:(
Besides the parents allowing a 3 year old to approach the dog I am stunned to read that the man that owned the dog left the scene instead of doing the right thing. Not sure why Lowe's would initially refuse to share the surveillance video. Hoping that the child is healing and will not be scared by this.
I have a healthy fear of Akitas--really any dog I don't know. I think it's really irresponsible for anyone to bring their dog to a store like that without a tight leash (metaphoric leash) on his behavior and knowing he is safe around a variety of people. You just never know. Plus I hate to lose my ability to work my dogs in places like Lowes and Home Depot due to such incidents.
Exactly, Adina. Home Depot and Lowes have been the perfect training spot for us. So many people and all kinds of noises. Enz doesn't even notice loud noises anymore!
Again, the day this happened, the news reported that the dog already had a bite history. I haven't seen that mentioned again! The man states, he was afraid the dog would be taken away....probably because he knew the bite history! Whatever the reason, totally irresponsible on his part, making dog owners all over look bad.
The parents of the child are another story...responsibility!
And even if they were right there....yes, who lets a 3 yr old approach a large dog like that????
I have no fear of Enzo nipping anyone, but I do worry, as a puppy, she will break her sit and maybe scratch. She constantly wants to give you her paw. I never allow children to approach her, without asking them if they have asked their parents first.for permission.
I completely agree.
Akitas are one of the few dogs that give me pause on sight.
