Several weeks ago  Spud had his rabies vaccine and a Bordetella.  I know it is common to have a lump at the injection site but we have a huge mass the size of my hand.  Alarmingly large.  No joke, it must be 5 inches wide, 3 inches high.

You can actually see the swell when he walks toward me. One side is much larger than the other.

It does not seem painful to touch although I have not tried to aggravate it too much.  He is eating and drinking and plays.

So I know others have had injection site lumps, how big does this get?  Or how big would you allow this to get before wondering if this is normal?

It is not a marble size or an egg. I'm talking sandwich size

Update:

Most probable cause is a post-injection site reaction.  Maybe because he was doing a doodle sit pose during the shot and the shot was injected rather low ( almost to the fold of his hip and groin area)  For me, this happened rather late if it is a reaction.

He has no fever, eats, plays, but does favor that area and will get up slowly or run funny almost like a hip dysplasia run. Understandable considering.  He doesnt lick or bother the area.

Steroids injection given to see if some of this inflammation will go down.

At this time, I am going to stop reading the internet about incidents of Sarcoma post Rabies Vaccinations and go enjoy a day off

Thank you for being out there and listening.

If I hide, he wont see me here.

Hugs from my Dad

Spud you are so cute and look so similar to Baxter!  I hope everything works out and that it goes away quickly so your mom does not have to worry!

Now the size of a Popsicle without the stick, hard and firm in place.
Long time healing. Geesh
As long as it does heal, that's what counts.

just reading all this now, what a worry....

Drat, I wish he was healing a bit faster.  That still sounds pretty large.
