Lovie, 6 was diagnosed w Lymes after a limping episode. Broke my heart. He was on antibiotics 3 wks, couldn't handle full dose( he weighs 53 lbs) so we went to half dose for 3 additional weeks. Symptoms gone for 4 mos. but seems to have aged in his face. Any suggestions on maintence of this disease?

I'm sorry to hear this.

Here are some links to good articles about Lyme Disease. The first one suggests regularly checking the dog's urine for excess protein: http://vetmedicine.about.com/od/diseasesandconditions/a/CW-K9Lyme.htm

The second one offers comprehensive info on treatments and long term effects, and also suggests follow-up blood and kidney testing:

I hope that Lovie has no further problems from the illness.

I'm so sorry about this diagnosis. Hoping you get great care for a long healthy life for you Lovie!

I too am sorry to hear this. I hope that Lovie is done with Lyme and has no residual problems. You do need to be vigilant about reinfection. I use Frontline on my dogs and vaccinate them as well.
