Maddy is 5 months old and weighs about 35 pounds. As some of you know she has been having some tummy problems the last few days. The vet originally had me adding some rice and chicken to some of her kibble. Now they want me to just do chicken and rice for 24 hours and see what happens. Her stools were getting back to normal and then at 4:30 this morning she had diarrhea again. She is acting normal..is hungry...wants to eat and drink..it's just the loose stools. She normally eats 1 1/2 cups of dry kibble a day...how much chicken and rice do you think I should give her? She is hungry. The vet wants to see how she is doing tomorrow afternoon and if the stools are still loose he wants to see her.
As a side note...I told the vet assistant that Maddy has been losing teeth for the last few days..ever since this started on Thurs. afternoon she has lost 4 or 5 teeth..I wonder if there is any correlation.

Kelly, I don't think chicken and rice works for everyone. It made Taquito's diarrhea worse. Will she eat her kibble without anything on it? I am not a vet, but isn't she just losing her puppy teeth?
The vet said Maddy needs to be on a bland diet and kibble is not considered bland. She always eats just dry kibble. The rice and chicken should act as a binding agent. It was working..I started to back off on the chicken and was just doing rice for the last day and a half...I guess I stopped the chicken too soon. Hopefully her next meal will help...I am probably going to add some pumpkin to it also.
Thanks
Kelly
When I need to put mine on bland diet, I use rice and whitting fish.
It helps them to firm up thier stool....
Lilly was also like that when she was loosing teeth. My vet said it did not come from that But could not figure out what was causing it. ( I still think it was.) I had Lilly on 3/4 cup kibble mixed with 1/2 cup cooked rice 2 times a day. Every time I tried to take her off of the rice she got loose again. So I did this until she was 1 yr. and then weaned her off. She did good after she got older and has been fine since.
Some human children get diarrhea when they are teething. Maybe......?
All of my kids got bad diarrhea when they were teething....
It's possible I guess for some dogs to maybe get loose stools when loosing their baby teeth. Mine never have so I can't really relate to this being the problem. I use boiled Hamburger/crumbled up after boiling and brown rice for my dogs when they get upset stomachs or loose stools. If they get 1 1/2 to 2 cups two times a day for their size which ranges from 35 to 55 - 60 lbs. they are usually okay with this.
Well the chicken and rice seems to be doing the trick plus I added 2 tbsp of canned pumpkin to the food. Maddy LOVES it...I think this is a good thing but I'm not sure - lol. She slept thru the night and after eating her morning meal had a fairly normal stool. I am pretty convinced it's the teeth. I did some searching and it seems this can be a problem for some dogs. She is only 5 months as of Monday and she has lost 5 teeth in less than a week...her gums are swollen and red and the new teeth are already pushing thru. She is fine otherwise...playing...eating...drinking...so I really don't think there is something more going on. Of course I'm not a vet and the vet will probably disagree....just like the pediatricians did when my kids were teething - lol.
Thanks for the support and suggestions!
Good to know in case Peri starts going through this in a month! She hasn't lost but 1 or 2 teeth yet. I am glad she is better.
