My male puppy just peeed in his own bed. No warning, and mind you he has been doing beautifully with ringing bell to go outside. We have not had an accident in over four weeks. He ran upstairs and peeed in his own bed. We have also noticed his penis has been out a lot over the last several days. And when I say out...I mean a long way...litterally resting on the floor when he sits. Any ideas? Thanks in advance.
LOL on the penis hanging out--Rosco's does that too once in a while.... Based solely on your description I would NOT think he has a UTI but just a normal puppy brain lapse. Rosco peed on one of our dog beds when he was between 3-5 months old. Just was walking and playing inside and without even thinking about it he leaned in and peed. Then kept on going. Just make sure to clean it up real good and take him out often and keep up your end and he'll eventually be consistent =)
Hi Yvonne,
I hope Adina is correct. The only thing I have to add is that you said you gave him a trim in that area, could something (hair, bacteria) have possibly gotten in there to cause a UTI? I don't even know if this is possible with boys, just a thought I'm putting out there in case someone else might know.
Well, I was just going to write you and ask about Gus. I mean is he just "excited". Even when he comes in from just going potty...he is "hanging out". And not to be rude but it is out a long way no just a little. ??? Guess I could call the vet and ask. I'm blushing!
It never hurts to call the vet and it's a free consult! If your vet is near, just stop by and ask for a urine cup and then you can always use that to drop off a pee sample at the vet's to ease your mind. But unless the frequent indoor urination continues I would NOT think it's a UTI. Rosco was a housebreaking nightmare and had a ton of accidents and peed often and never a UTI.
Rosco was neutered before he was 5 months and his red rocket blasts off now and then. He'll just be sitting when the red rocket will emerge, a whole 2 inches at times. I've also seen it sneak out when he's in a sit stay during training or when I'm dremeling his nails.
If it bothers me (other people around or I'm trying to take a photo of him) I tell him to "down" and by lying down I think that makes it retract.
Funny! Gus's has popped out a few times that I've noticed, not a lot. Once when I was holding him on my lap, another time when our neighbor was petting him. My lab-mix that I had was neutered at 6 months, and his popped out every now and then for the rest of his life, usually when he was begging for food. I'm guessing it's excitement that causes it. Adina's tip about having him lie down sounds like it's worth a try for you. It's never bothered me, but then again I don't have a little girl to explain things to! By the way, Gus and Molly have also lost their top 2 and bottom 2 teeth, but it hasn't slowed down their eating at all.
That is exactly where Astro is two top and two bottom! No slowing down this chow hound. I think we will weigh again tonight...even though we are a day early.
