Maybe I'd Better Figure Out How To Bathe JD At Home

First, poor Luca suffered a broken tail and eventually had to have part of it surgically removed as the result of a visit to the groomer. :(

Then I saw this story & video about a groomer beating and abusing dogs she was being paid to groom:

Now, the worst story yet: A dog who died after being thrown against a wall by a groomer at the vet's office!!!!

I'm afraid to leave JD anywhere at this point. 

What I can't figure out is why anyone who could do things like this to a helpless dog chose a profession where they spend their days working with dogs.

Yeah, I had a similar experience with a mobile groomer once. I hoped it was just that particular groomer. :(

our mobile groomer was rough and tough with Jack and he was just 10 pounds, she lied and talked about giving him a blueberry facial and I ended up going into her trailer and pulling him out.......

I can't read these stories. I do all my own grooming and have known about dogs not being supervised at the vets during the night for years. I just read about a dog that died following surgery who had a seizure whilst in the vets overnight unattended. There is no way I am ever leaving my dogs unattended while ill. They are never left at home alone at night so why would I let the vets do it and pay for it too?

this is all so sad.  These people need to find a new profession!  they are a disgrace to human society!  

I bath them in-between groomings (because they get groomed every 6 wks) but i just can not get myself to trim their nails!  First, Zoe's nails are black so I'm scared to death to clip them too short (once did when she was a puppy ), and Mr. Ben is Super sensitive and his nails are pink and hardly ANY white so I cant get myself to do it!

I am really glad I saw this after I got home from the groomer....while it was a bad haircut he is fine. I think I would use Petsmart for grooming because at least ppl can see what they are doing for the most part ....

It's been a long day Karen.....I can't even bring myself to view your links.   I think we all have to be very careful about where we bring our children, our elderly, our beloved pets.   We even have to be careful about where we choose to eat out.   There's only so much we can do.....I try to be observant and aware of the "vibes" around me.   I'm not sure what else a person can do.

You're right, Carol, and that's usually the way I live my life as well. To have heard these two groomer horror stories in the same week did rattle me, though.

Karen, I saw the first video you linked when it was on the news and I can't watch it again, nor do I need to, it keeps playing over and over in my head. I can't read the second one because frankly they make me physically ill. I want to go back to the time when I thought the worse thing that happened at the groomer was a bad haircut. I have seen a groomer at Petsmart leave a small dog with a noose unattended on the table. I didn't complain to the management at that time but you can be sure I will if I ever see it again.

Unfortunately sociopaths are very adept at hiding their true colors and can charm your socks off, sadly, there are a lot of them out there.

I bathe and groom both my boys at home myself. I don't bath them very often, thank goodness, because it would kill my back! We do have a self-service dog-wash near us that I have thought about trying. It has proper grooming sinks with ramps for the dogs to use to get in them, a choice of shampoos etc (although you can bring your own), dryers and everything. It is all coin operated. I think it is a pretty neat idea!

That does sound like a good idea! I bring my own shampoo, but just having a walk-in tub would be so helpful!
