I just read this on another forum.  Metacam (meloxicam) is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory (NSAID) oral suspension for use for the treatment of pain and inflammation in dogs.

That's not good news at all! Thanks for posting, though.
Very interesting.... one of our vets recently prescribed metacam for Toby when she diagnosed him with "inflammation of the hips".  Very puzzling that the FDA would approve this since Xylitol is known to be toxic...
Thankyou so much for posting! This is very helpful.
This drug almost tore Sheila's stomach up!!  She had continuous diarreah for days and we had to shave tail and put her in diapers for days. 
Poor Sheila.  Now you know that medicine is bad news.
Thank you very much for alerting us to this.

 

I just spoke to my vet.  He said that because Xylitol is such a problem he expects that they will quickly change this formulation.
