Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

OK, I guess I need to start this discussion with admitting that I should be more informed on this subject.   I did get Chewie microchipped so that if he ever got lost (god forbid), we would have a much better chance of getting him back.  I have been reading these posts lately about these poor lost doodles and read the comment that " The microchip info was up to date".  I just assumed that once it was done that is it.  How do you keep the information up to date?  Sorry I am "sneaking" on doodle kisses from work right now and do not have my paperwork to look at.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks !!

OK - that makes more sense. So he is up to date as long as we do not move or change phone numbers. At that point is when I need to worry about keeping him up to date. Thank you I feel much better now !!
Avid charges $15 to change the ownership registration, and $6 to update.
I have Home Again and use an online account. You can upload photos, change your contact information, etc....
Photos help because an email blast goes out if you report your dog missing - I get a few daily about dogs in my area. And I always keep an eye out for them, especially those near my zipcode.
Also, rescue dogs are usually chipped by the rescue, with their information, so when they are adopted, the new owner has to change the information on file with the chip registry. The same would be true if a dog was rehomed between owners.
I am going to have to check my info at home and see what company I have. That would be great if I could set up an online account with photos.
It is also a good idea to have your vet check the chip, perhaps yearly, to see that it can be read, or hasn't migrated.
That is an excellent point. I have heard about the chips occasionally migrating. I had my doodles chips scanned the last time that they were groomed just to make sure they were easy to find.
We just had Murphy micro chipped with his neuter, and the vet told us we have to pay an annual fee to keep it in force.
Home Again does not - it renews automatically annually. I paid $30 or something for a lifetime membership.
I have HomeAgain and there is a $16.99 annual fee. I was not given the option to pay a one time lifetime fee.
I pulled out my paperwork and Chewie has Avid also. I am confused it talks about PETtrac for a onetime fee of 19.95 for lifetime protection. Is this an additional cost or I need to do this to register?? Now I am getting confused again!
Thank you Nancy !! I am glad that I asked about this. I need to register his microchip # still. Thank you everybody for your help again !!!
