People forget how devastating childhood illnesses, or even adult illnesses can be. But once you know of or have seen people with measles encephalitis, tetanus, rabies etc., you realize that vaccines, while not perfect, have drastically changed healthcare for people and pets for the better. I have seen some of these things and I vaccinate whenever feasible rather than take chances. I knew a dog who died of distemper. I have a friend with severe sequelae from polio who now has post polio syndrome. I had whooping cough as a child and had to spend a summer with an aunt because my mother worked at a camp and I was not allowed to go because of it. I had many childhood illnesses that kids are now spared.
Amen.
One of my sons had whooping cough - at that time it wasn't common and was not easily diagnosed. It was not a fun illness for him to have and it took a long time for him to get well.
We had a puppy either stolen or get out some way from out yard. She did not have her collar on when we found her and the collar was never found. Chipping would not have helped us find her at all, but if someone else found her, a chip would have been wonderful.
As to cancer and chips; the dog we just lost to an aggressive cancer was NOT chipped. My son's dog died of cancer last spring and he was not chipped either. So my small stats lend credibility to a lack of correlation between chipping and cancer.
Sorry to say that proves nothing . I don't think anyone is saying all cancers are caused by chipping. Personally I won't believe any is until I see evidence but you never know. Both my dogs are chipped.
No more room for responses but you got it in one, Karen.
