Esther....how is your adorable Joey these days? I see that your last photo of him is from over a year ago. How much does he weigh now? He has a lot of similarities in looks to my Kona. Kona will be 11 months old tomorrow and has stopped growing at 24 pounds about 5 months ago. He's pretty steady between 23.5 and 24.5 pounds depending on activity level. I thought he was too big to be called a mini, but I'm seeing people call their 30 pound doodles "Mini's", so maybe I should start calling Kona a mini.
What kind of behavior issues are you having? Kona started barking at the mailman and passing dogs when he's in the window and all of the little tricks to "help" only seem to worsen it. So I was just wondering what you are dealing with.
Hi Esther, I just went to check out Plantation Delight, and I saw on Yelp that you wrote a glowing review of them and said that you would definitely buy another doodle from them. I see that they've closed their doors due to many puppy mill issues. When did you change your mind about them? Maybe you should go update your Yelp review.
Hi Gwyndolyn,
Yeah, when we first got her the only access to reviews we had were Yelp. And after visiting the property, we didn't see any problems. I wouldn't say we had an overwhelmingly pleasant experience there. But we definitely didn't see any bad signs. After we got Joey I really wanted to find liter mates or just get in touch with people who have gotten their dogs from the same breeder. So I googled from time to time. And everyday I found AFTER getting Joey was negative. Prior to getting her, most google searches came up negative. Both my husband and I work/ed at Google so we're good at internet stalking!
I changed my mind about then AFTER I saw that they closed their doors. I also changed my mind about them because my friend got a dog from them after me and was told that they are no longer breeding because the breeder got breast cancer. Well it turns out that it wasn't a voluntary shut down. Which then made me more upset that they would lie about a serious medical condition to cover up the shut down! Anyways, I thought about updating my Yelp review. But they're closed now so didn't think it would make a difference...
Did you get your dog from them as well?
No. I was just curious. Your pup looks so much like mine. Kona is a double doodle, though. Not a straight Goldendoodle. I showed the photo of Joey in the tub to my boyfriend because it is virtually identical to a photo I have of Kona in the tub. Same look. Same eyes. Sam drown rat look.
I hope you've been able to work through some of the behavioral issues. I still think my breeder is a very good person and breeder. They don't do very many litters per year, and they are on a wide open property with about an acre of land to play on when they aren't in the house bonding with humans and getting used to human noises like blenders and vacuum cleaners, etc. The place where you got yours doesn't sound quiet as "homey".
I got our dog from Plantation Delight. We LOVE our dog. But we do have a lot of problems with her. Do we regret having Joey in our life? No. But if we knew then what we know now, I would NOT have gone to Plantation Delight.

Then how is this establishment registered with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania? All types of licensing registrations are identified and defined according to the Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture under Act 119 established quite a few years ago. According to a search on the PDA website, the last license this establishment held expired in 2011. To answer your question, no, I have not been there BUT I reserve the right to make an educated decision not to.
Bravo, Marnie. Don't you love the internet?
Funny, she lists herself as a vet tech but according to Pennsylvania Code, Chapter 31, she is required to be certified pursuant to State Statute and Administrative Code. http://www.pacode.com/secure/data/049/chapter31/s31.32.html Let me go to licensure verification for the state……..OOPS, no one by that name is registered! http://www.licensepa.state.pa.us/Search.aspx
I have a feeling there may have been some nepotism involved in the hiring process.;-)
Good comment, Chelsie. I love the Bernese Mountain Dog also, and I have carefully considered getting a sheepadoodle (mix between an OES and standard poodle). Of course, it is questionable breeding, but I have a breeder I thoroughly trust and she is conducting some experiments with sheepadoodles. She will not be breeding them until next year and is currently getting all types of testing done. I want one of the pups, but felt that Harpo could not wait that long for a companion. My husband said a year for a dog is like seven years for a human and you would never ask your child to wait seven years for a little brother or sister. Good point. So we started looking at rescues and got a little dog who was a rescue and supposedly a F1b mini labradoodle. Who knows. He had been on the streets, and was shaved down. He looks terrible, but it a great playmate and that is what we wanted. So, sheepadoodle down the line looks like a good possibility.
