Update....I met with the cardiac surgeon today. I am set to have the hole in my heart closed for Tuesday. I could not get an appointment before then because he is booked soild. It is a pretty simple procedure or so they are hoping. One of the big concerns in part of the procedure would involve upsetting my airways, so they are going to have an anesthisologist standing by in case they need him.

I talked extensively with  him and he wanted me to understand perfectly clear that this is not going to cure me or fix me, it will just make it a bit easier for me to breathe.... I will be admitted Tuesday morning, and spend at least one night in the hospital, depending on how I amd doing. The earliest I can fly home is the following Saturday but I won't know if I am cleared to fly until my follow up up on Friday.

They are also working me up for a procedure called a Nissen wrap, which is also a minor surgery that will help block reflux from getting into my lungs and maybe, just maybe settle my nasty airway down. So I am going to be here another nine days at least... and then home sweet home.

I won't be able to have any more surgeries for a while becuase I will be on blood thinners... so I will cancel the hysterectomy I had scheduled.

Anyway.... Jarka and my second favorite doodle in the world Monty came to visit me today. Jarka will have to add pictures if she can. We went to the dog park.. it was so nice to be out like a real human being, sitting and soaking up some sunshine.

I have been fighting, my nurses and doctors have been fighting for two week for approval from my insrurance of a medication I really need.. Please pray the goverment will butt out the decision of what a doctor and a proven effective medication that will help  me. I can't believe Medicare sucks so badly that they can just say NO.. Butt heads is what I have to say tot hem.. and  we continue are fight.

anyway, Jarka is so sweet, and I even spoke to her husband today and he was such a sweet heart too.

I am so blessed to not have to be here feeling alone.. So appreciate. Nine days and counting till I can hold my baby boy again.

Jennifer, We are all praying at my house! Hoping for a wonderful, better than imagined outcome for the surgeries. I love the photos of you and Monty. Thank you, Jarka, for being such a great DK friend to take time out with Jenn. xoxo

Good Luck to you Jennifer!! Please let us know how you are doing when you can!! I am glad you don't feel alone. How brave for you to go through this. My heart and thoughts are with you!!!

I hope the surgery goes well!

Doodles and sunshine, glad you got to enjoy both. Praying that your surgery goes well and that you get the medication you need, we really want you to be able to breathe easier.

Good luck with the surgery. Breathing somewhat easier is no little thing.

Jennifer~ Extra prayers coming your way on Tuesday and for the medication you need, may your surgery go extremely well so you can get back and love on your fur kid, Jack as soon as possible. (((HUGS)))

Jennifer,

I am so glad things are progressing for you and you have a plan in place.   About the Nissen wrap.  It isn't exactly a minor surgery.   My son had that done at Christmas time.   It is a great surgery for those that need it and those that it works, but it is not a procedure to consider as minor.   I wish you could chat with him.   Please PM me, if  you want to know more.

Wish you nothing but the best and have you in my thoughts and prayers.

Hugs,

Martha

I guess I do need to k ow more about it,,,,,honestly I am a little afraid of it but I don't want a trach. I have heard horror stories from it but I am not thinking about them....the overall goal is to keep my airways open! I have the swallow study and pressure study Monday to see if I can handle the surgery. At National Jewish they don't just do it for bad Gerd they make sure I can handle it.

Yep, my son went through quite a workup before he had his procedure and tried everything else first.  Josh had early Barretts esophagitis and he is only 28.   It just wasn't as easy as the Surgeon said it might be and he is still having problems.   I wish you nothing but the best.

Do you need a ride home after discharge?

Lynn I didnt know or remember that you are in Denver.... We should have met. I am pretty sure I have a ride back to the hotel on WEd with one of the girls that works here. Thank you so much though. Where do you live?

Praying for you . . . so glad you got MORE doodle loving and a chance to get outside in the sun!
