Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum
I don't know about all of you, but I am ready for a lighthearted discussion. Mother's Day is coming up on Sunday and I would like to hear a funny story or stories about your mother. I have to be careful here because my DD's are on DK, but luckily my mother is not :) My mother will be 85 this May and she has a great sense of humor. She laughs at all my jokes, even when they are about her. I guess growing up she always used to say if someone teases you, they like you, so going by that theory I love her and my family loves me.
My mom is not a big animal person and does not understand why people want pets. She does, however, love Fudge and Vern. Once when my kids were little, I called and told her we were getting a cat. Right away she said if we got a cat then she wasn't coming to stay at our house ever again and when I told that to my DH, we started laughing and yelled to the kids to get dressed, and to please hurry because we were on our way to get a cat that day. She was still on the phone and that cracked her up.
A couple of years ago, she announced to us that she was coming out to our house for both Thanksgiving and Christmas. According to her, her financial guy said she can afford to come for both holidays. We told her we thought she should be thinking about getting a new financial guy and that sent her into waves of laughter.
When President Obama was newly elected, she could not stop talking about his possible Health Care plan. My mom still has all her marbles and can get pretty wound up about a subject and kept going on and on about his plan and said it could mean euthanasia for the elderly. The last time she brought it up, one of us asked her if she knew how to get someone on the list and did it help if more than one family member submitted a name and then we all laughed.
She is beyond competitive and at 85, is in a Wii bowling league and plays every week. If you beat her, you have to keep playing until she beats you. I got her a Mother's Day card this year that says something like They say the Nut doesn't fall to far from the tree and then you open it and it says that scares the hell out of me. Truer words were never spoken. Both my mom and I like to laugh and I see my future before my eyes when I look at her. I think laughter is a pretty great thing to pass on to your children. So, Happy Mother's Day to my funny mom and I would love to hear some funny stories about what makes your mom special.

I agree. 85 and doing Wii??? My grandma (88) cannot figure out how to check her email (but she has it!).
Wow I am impressed.
When I read that my very own mother posted yet another discussion I just shook my head in shame. Then I saw her topic "funny stories about your mother!" The urge to comment on this post was just too strong considering I am sure many of you have already heard stories about her DD and SIL. I now get to have some payback. Remember, Mom, you opened up this can of worms. On facebook, my husband and I have started a group about my mother called [Stuff] (you can imagine what stuff really is) my Mother in Law says, starring Laurie Arnold! I thought this would be a wonderful forum to share some quotes and pictures of the woman who has written about me in every Christmas letter for the past 27 years and who has required "photo sessions" for those Christmas letters. Let me tell you those Christmas letter photos were no easy feat. Usually, someone (my sister) would end up in tears, someone (my mother) would usually end up yelling, someone (my dad) would be no where to be found during the chaos and would take forever to snap a photo. It was always a fun experience that usually ended with me saying naughty words and my mom saying, "I don't care what you say, just smile!" So this is my revenge! :)
Here are some (as I like to call them) Laurieisms:
1. I think this one is self-explanatory and I'll start out with it for all you doodlers. My mother once said, "If I die in a car crash, I want the last thing that I see to be my Doodles licking my face."
2. During a snowball fight with my 5 year old cousin a few years back, my mother said, "There are no timeouts in snowball fights!" She said this after he called timeout and as she was throwing a mound (not a snowball, a mound of snow) on his head.
3. When told about the facebook group she said, "OMG! I am a Laurieism. I have to be witty everyday or as your father says witless." She laughed hysterically after she said this.
4. When asked if she would cry at my cousin's wedding, my mother replied, "I won't cry because I am basically half man."
5. And just the other day she said she would rather that I live close to her in PA than be happy in my day to day job. She was joking.
As I poke fun at my mom and laugh to myself, I must admit that the reason I can poke fun at her is because she has such a great sense of humor. I am sure I get mine from her and am grateful that I have had such a funny and supportive mom. I am sure I would not have gotten as far as I have if it wasn't for her support and I can honestly say that I do hope my husband and I get to move closer to home so that we can see her and my family more often and mock her daily. :)
Love the little payback. You are indeed lucky to have a Mom with a great sense of humour, my mother although I love her dearly has absolutely no sense of humour.
