So we just found out that Baylee has "acanthomatous epulis". This is a benign tumor that won't metasticize, but can be "locally invasive". I'm still trying to figure out exactly what this is and we will be going to a specialist.
From what I read this most often occurs in older dogs (Baylee is 7 months old!) and boxers. So lucky us, I guess! :-(
Has anyone had any experience with this? I'm not not sure what measures we will be able to take financially with this. :-(

Im sorry to hear this. I hope the surgery goes really good & they get it all removed.
That she heals well. Poor Baylee
I'm sorry to hear that Baylee needs such an extensive surgery but hopefully this will put and end to the problem! We'll be praying for a great outcome for her!
My poor baby is home. :-( The surgery was pretty extensive. They removed 3 teeth and some bone. They are biopsing it to make sure they got all the epulis. She is on a pain patch for 4 days and is pretty out of it. She will need soft food for a couple of weeks and has a cone to keep her from mouthing stuff. The really tough thing is, no TOYS for 4 WEEKS! I can't imagine how she is going to do this. She is a very energetic, playful puppy (normally). We will have to take a lot of walks to get all that energy out!
Thanks again for the positive thoughts!
Aww...sweet girl! I'm glad she is back home with her family! No toys for 4 weeks sounds like puppy torture!! LOL! I hope her recovery time goes fast and all of you can get back to life as usual! Hugs and best wishes!
Joanne, I am very glad that the dental specialist was able to schedule the surgery so soon, before it grew any bigger. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that they got it all and that Baylee will soon be back to her old self!
Cosmo had surgery on his elbow at about 10 months old. He didn't like his cone very much, but he recovered pretty quickly. Puppies are very resilient little creatures!
Best wishes to Baylee, you, and your family!
Poor Baylee, I hope she feels better soon and the recovery goes well. Hugs to you both.
How hard on Baylee & you. I hope she slept well last night.
Hopefully those 4 days on the pain patch will really help.
I hope the 4 weeks of restrictions goes smooth & she heals good.
I will be waiting for good news on the Biopsy too.
How is Baylee doing now that several days have passed since her surgery? I've been thinking about her and your family often, and know that it must be tough to wait for the pathology results to become available. I don't know what else to say besides that I do understand how tough this time must be. Take care.
Well, today has been interesting. She has been whining since about 5:30am. I can't figure out if she is in pain or bored out of her mind. She has had a pain patch on, that my husband took of this morning and I wonder if it was running out of medicine- I'm not sure how those work. She will also get her last dose of oral pain medicine this afternoon. So if she is still whining tomorrow, I will call the vet because I think she may be in pain.
She has been very calm/groggy since her surgery. I think if she was just bored, she'd be getting more and more hyper and more back to her old self. She knows her toys are in our bedroom and keeps going to the door and whining. So I can't figure out what is going on with her.
I think we will her the results Tuesday or Wednesday. I will keep you posted. Thanks for thinking of us!
I hope her whining is from boredom and wanting her toys rather than pain. Don't you wish they could talk sometimes? Or that you were a mind reader? Yes, please let us know what you find out from the vet.
