So we just found out that Baylee has "acanthomatous epulis". This is a benign tumor that won't metasticize, but can be "locally invasive". I'm still trying to figure out exactly what this is and we will be going to a specialist.
From what I read this most often occurs in older dogs (Baylee is 7 months old!) and boxers. So lucky us, I guess! :-(
Has anyone had any experience with this? I'm not not sure what measures we will be able to take financially with this. :-(

I'm not sure what was going on this morning, but by this afternoon I'm sure the pain patch had worn off because she was no longer groggy and calm like she had been for 4 days. Our old Baylee is back and I have no idea how we are going to keep her busy without toys for 3 weeks! She is picking up the kids toys, water bottles, anything she can get ahold of. Poor thing! She's used to playing fetch with my husband on the couch all evening.
Although the groggy was kind of nice and perhaps a glimpse of the dog she will be in a few years when she calms down, it is good to see her back to herself. She does not seem to be in pain at all, although we will continue soft food until her check up in 2 weeks.
Glad she's back to her usual self, even if that's challenging.
How about keeping her busy by practicing her training commands or even working on new ones? Mental stimulation can tire a dog out almost as much as physical exercise. Games of "hide and seek" can help, too, although some dogs (like Jackdoodle) never get the hang of that.
That is a really good idea. She finished her second training class in July and we've kind of slacked with two surgeries in two weeks. Ugh! But that will be a great way to keep her busy. I'll have to find some really soft treats for her.
We're also trying to take her on extra walks, which is good for everyone!
I'm sorry to hear this! Wishing Baylee the best. :(
How's Baylee doing? Just thinking about you guys and hoping things are continuing to improve.
Great news today about Baylee- the dental vet called and said the margins on her biopsy were free of epulis so once she has recovered from her surgery she should be good to go. Hopefully, the nasty stuff will never return and we won't have to deal with something like this again.
She is doing great. Acts like nothing is wrong, but the vet reiterated "no toys" at least until her recheck next week. So puppy torture will continue. LOL
Thanks again for all your good wishes!!
So glad to hear this good news!
