Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum
This post is not about me or any known DK member. Just musings as the midnight hour of the calendar deadline approaches at least here in the East. What if you are a world class photographer? But you have a unattractive less attractive doodle. We could ask the question, are there any such things? Aren't all doodles attractive? Especially to the people who love them. Should your doodle be in the calendar? Great picture, sharp, clear, gorgeous setting. Ordinary doodle. But then in the hands of a great photographer the soulfulness of a doodle's eyes comes through doesn't it? What if you have a spectacular doodle. But you are not at all a photographer?
Needless to say all the calendar submission preoccupation has gotten to me. Should I have carried a brush and camera around a lot? Should I have bothered the doodles so much? Aren't they dogs and entitled to be messy? I have seen some fabulous pictures of wet doodles though. But then the dogs did get dried liver treats for today's last minute shoots. Maybe they thought it was worth it all. At least I don't force them into costumes : ) But at times it reminds me of the Westminster Kennel Club and the backstage primping that seems insane to me.
Can anybody capture with a camera the love you feel when you look at your dog? Any thoughts?

I know exactly what you mean. I bought tons of calendars when my doodles were in them. And I always root for both of them but especially Luca since Calla is more photogenic : ) I try to get pictures of them both, almost humanly impossible.
Wow, it was doodle calendar deadline day ... silly me, I wasn't even aware. What stress I have missed. Having a naked legged doodle almost the entire summer I decided to skip the pressure of trying to get that calendar worthy shot. Now I won't have to be on pins and needles until the reveal! Hopefully the hair will be grown back in in time to try and get that great shot for the Christmas Card. Wouldn't want a completely stress free year! Good Luck everyone!
And save those Christmas shots for next year : )
I don't think that my shot I finally end up with for my card would even begin to compete for the calendar! Christmas is even more challenging because I always want to wait for some snow so that really limits the opportunities for photo sessions. Since DH has retired I've been trying to get him into the photography group so he can take over the photo responsibility but so far I haven't managed to do that!
Tell him to join and we ladies will fawn over him. We have too few male members : )
And for your Christmas cards, no need for the pressure of getting a photo in time to order and mail them out if you use lasts years pics. I do it every year :)
Good thinking! I submitted some oldies for the calendar. After a short respite I plan to start on next year.
No stress for us this year. With everything we have going on with Murph, I just took shots of them when we were out doing fun things. There were no "special location" trips this year and no special grooming sessions....it was "au natural" all the way. Some of the photos I've seen in the Photography Group are fabulous. I'm looking forward to the 2013 calendars.
Yours is the best way!
The only stress I had this year for the calendar was choosing 5 of a dozen picked from hundreds of photos I took of Haley this year . I did not do any special shoot for the calendar. I think the natural photos taken in "a moment of time" come closer to showing the soul than the posed shots. And, no, I don't think a photo can capture the love I feel for Haley.
Good luck to all who submitted.
I really like the natural shots best too but most of the calendar shots chosen are posed I think.
