Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

I wanted to share my experience with GoPetPlan insurance given how they are discussed in many of the insurance threads.  One day my wife came home to find a little amount of vomit in our dog Jackson’s crate; it appeared he threw up the treat the dog walker gave him some point after she left.  As soon as my wife let our dog out of the crate, he ran to the door and had a bad case of the runs.

This lasted for 24 hours so we brought him to the vet.  The vet tested for parvo (he had finished his shots only 7 days earlier) and the other standard fecal tests.  They also checked for an obstruction via an x-ray.  All the tests turned out negative, so they diagnosed it as gastroenteritis and prescribed him a round of metronidazole, cerenia, forti-flora, and a bland diet until his stools improved.   They also gave him a shot of liquids to re-hydrate him as well.  Total bill tallied ~$540.  I currently have the Silver Plan, with a $200 deductible with 0% co-insurance.  I submitted my claim online and within 10 days, I had a check for $340.

Jackson improved quickly after the medication, within 4 days his stools were fine and we started transitioning back to kibble around day 7 or 8.  He finished his medication and within 48 hours the symptoms came back in full force.  We brought Jackson back to the vet and had another fecal test
done along with SuperChem blood test.  The results came back negative. The vet prescribed amforol this time around along with an injection of some medication.  Total bill was ~$320.  I submitted my paperwork online and within 2 weeks I received another check, this time for the entire $320 (I
did not have to pay the deductible as the documentation clearly showed this was a continuation of the initial claim, although I had some doubts that they would do this).  This time around Jackson fully
recovered once off the meds.

Overall I’ve been very please with gopetplan.com.  I’ll probably update this thread once I have to renew my policy to see how much they increase the rate, but so far I would recommend them.  I believe the claim was painless because I was able to scan in all my vet records and receipts to pdf

format and e-mail together as opposed to having the vet fax in one set of paperwork and then me sending in the other paperwork.

The only thing she had that may come back, but I hopefully doubt it is the pancreatitis that was caused from eating boneless pork, knock wood - no ear infections... nothing really routine,,, Tori has to be the odd one out of course... she was also hospitalized overnight for swallowing a teeny tiny screw that she luckily passed, but both overnight stays came to over $1,000 each time. do ANY plans pay for preventative care? I'll have to really research them again this weekend when I have a clear head, and more time on my hands... second thought that probably won't be 'till school lets out in 2 weeks - LOL Thanks for your help. Glad to hear all is well there!
What is the monthly cost of this insurance?
I just went back and checked, I paid $226 as they do yearly coverage. They may allow you to pay monthly, but I'm not 100% sure.
So spread out over a year it would be approx $19/mo....
It is based on where you live, type of dog, age of dog etc. I pay $47.00 per quarter for Lucy and the Same for Sophie. I have the $200 deductible with 100 % pay after that.. Again, only for unexpected things, not routine or preexisting conditions but they do cover genetic things like hip dysplasia.
This is not bad at all.... sounds as that i is much cheaper than VIP Pet , we have....
I just got on this plan a couple of months ago, $200.00 deductable, 90/10 copay and it costs me $15 a month for each dog, $30 a month for both dogs. Buddy is 5yo and Kona is 3 yo.
I also can recommend Petplan here in Europe. So far I never had any issues with claiming any bills. They were always refunded very fast and fully. Good to hear that they are operating world wide in such a customer friendly way - not common in the insurance industry!
I have the same Silver plan with $200 deductible with no copay. I submitted my bills on 5/27 for Samantha's scratched cornea. I have not received my check yet but I should soon. My claim is 'closed' so I assume the check is in the mail - WOL!

I pay $235 year. I just 'redid' the application.Their prices have gone up. Now for the same plan $316.93. I wonder if my renewal rates will go up too?!?!?!

learned something new:
BOARDING KENNEL AND CATTERY FEES
We will pay for the reasonable costs of boarding your pet at a licensed kennel or cattery or for the cost of someone who does not live with you or who is not related to you to look after your pet up to the maximum annual benefit for this
coverage part as shown on the Declarations Page, while you are in a hospital as a result of your own sickness,
disease or bodily injury, excluding pregnancy or childbirth, during the policy period. There is no coinsurance or
deductible applied to this coverage.

Any such sickness, disease or bodily injury of your own must have occurred or been diagnosed and reported during the
policy period. You must submit a claim form completed by your doctor and by the owner of the boarding kennel or
cattery. We will also need the original invoice from the kennel, cattery or written from the person looking after your pet.
I just wanted to add one thing to this discussion as it caught me by surprise and I wanted to be sure everyone else caught it on the Pet Plan website because it is not totally easy to find. I started checking into it after Adrianne made a post about the refund that she got and that there was a 30% co pay that she didn't expect. Here is what I have learned. I got the info through trading e-mails with Pet Plan.

If you take your dog to your normal routine vet then the pay is as per you signed up. In our case it is $200 deductible with 100% pay after that. However, if I were to take them to a "Specialist", "A Vet School", or "an emergency clinic (for a non emergency", then I would have a 30% co-pay in addition to my $200 deductible. I think this is very important because I know one of the main reasons I took out the insurance was for hip dysplasia or allergy issues should I encounter them. Unfortunately, I'm guessing that would lead me to a Specialist. Although 30% co-pay is still better than than 100% pay.
