Hey guys, I am a little down because mommy says I am F-A-T:( When she took us to get weighed yesterday I was 29.5 lbs. I should be low 20's. I tried to convince mommy (and my girlfriend) that it was ALL MUSCLE, but I don't think they are buying it:( My stats are: boy, 19" tall, 9.5 months old. Love to sleep, Love to eat. I chase Rosey a lot, I usually go to care but haven't since my illness. Mommy walks us on days we don't got to care but has been a bit "preoccupied" lately. Mommy switched my food to Wellness Adult 2 weeks ago, 5/8cup per serving. She knows she should have switched puppy food earlier and is all sad about that. But point is I need to lose some LBS F-A-S-T.... Any ideas??
Couple questions:
Do marrow bones have a lot of calories? I just love'm
How much exercise should I get?
What are good treats-low cal but tasty enough for my OB training?

Thanks guys & gals I appreciate the support and may I be the Biggest Loser of this fall season..

Zukes mini naturals are only 2 calories per treat, I've tried the chicken and they have a pretty nice strong smell. My girls also like the Charlee Bear liver flavor, but its not has "high reward" as the Zukes. It's nice for a dry treat that won't go bad sitting loose in the treat bag, good smell and 3 calories each.

I can't help on the other stuff :)
Thanks! We have those so that is a pawsitive sign:)
Bandit, I feel your pain! I was a fat doodle last spring, too, I weighed 90 lbs!!! My mom started being more careful about measuring my food and started playing ball with me more. Now I weigh 84 and my vet tech says I look good!
Marrow bones have zero calories because they're inedible, but if your mom stuffs them with cheese, peanut butter, or other tasty things, that's very caloric.
Some doodles like baby carrots and apples, which are good low cal treats...but I don't like any fruits or vegetables. For treats, I get pieces of plain duck, chicken or liver jerky. But I'm picky.
I even heard that some moms replace a little of their doodles' food with some green beans to help them lose weight...I'm glad my mom didn't do that, but I guess some doodles like it!
Good luck, Bandit. It's not so hard to lose weight, especially if it means you get to play more!
Hey Jackdoodle, I think you are just the coolest dood especially since you look like Gandolf, I thought you would have a magic spell for me (and my mom too she needs to lose about 10lbs shhhh:) . Mom gives me frozen marrow bones with marrow, do those not have calories either? It seems since they are so yummy they would have SOMETHING!! Mom says she will try to stick to proteins and try the veggies... last time she gave me a carrot I said WTD is that, I'd rather eat rocks, hey but their low cal right???
Marrow is okay...not low cal but it's so good for us, it would be a crime not to let us have it!
PS: I think you are a really cool dood, too. My mom used to help humans lose weight, and she says there is no magic spell for that...bummer!
DARNO DARNO, Gandolf, (oops I mean JackDoodle) we were also hoping you could have a spell to get our house back... Everything in life is work, part of the journey I guess;) If mom gives us a marrow should I skip a meal? They are big and I always steal from sissy R too:) ha ha!
Wow, you must get some really big marrow bones if there is enough marrow in them to replace a meal!!! I want some of those!
Mom doesn't know the calorie content of marrow, but she says one 5/8 cup serving of your food is about 250 calories.
His mom does know the calorie content of beef marrow; she just doesn't know how you would ever weigh the amount that's in a bone, lol. But it's doubtful it comes close to 5/8 cup of Wellness.
Here is a picture of our big bones, There is probably a tennis ball amount of gooey marrow in them

mom thinks it might be a lot for my little tummy
Calories in that amount of marrow are relatively small...I don't know what an ounce of marrow would look like, but there's only about 70 calories in an oz, which is about a sixth of a cup of his kibble.
Okay when we have more time we will scoop out marrow and weigh it on the kitchen scale:) I give them when I leave, he maybe gettin' some of Rosey's too.. who knows.
