Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

Hello.I am a first time Golden Doodle mom :)

I'm pretty new to the Dog world as well.

Jack is his name. He was born 1-25-17, now 8 weeks old. Dad is Poodle and mom is Golden Retriever. I am kennel training.

I was wondering a couple things.

When should I give him his 1st bath?

Any great treats advise for rewards?

Super curious as to what he will look like when he is older? His paws seem really big and at this point his fur is not shedding.

Any advise appreciated any thoughts as well.

Thank you,

Lorie Ann

Hi Lorie Ann, welcome to DK. Jack is adorable, and of course, I love his name, lol.

By my calculations, he will be 10 weeks old tomorrow. :)
Regarding your questions:

It's not necessary to bathe dogs very often; every 6-8 weeks is plenty, unless of course they roll in something awful, lol.

For the first few weeks after you bring home a new puppy, you want to keep his diet exactly as it was at his breeder's, and you want to introduce new foods slowly, and one at a time. For training treats, your best bet is tiny pieces of plain boiled white meat chicken. You can also use dehydrated chicken treats like Pure Bites

Young puppies of any breed usually don't shed. But 70% of all F1 doodles like Jack do shed as adults, some quite heavily. (Mine does.) I think your Jack is going to have a similar coat, probably a bit wavier. He's going to be very shaggy and doodle-y looking, lol, but he will probably shed at least a little.

Looking forward to seeing him as he grows. :)

Thanks for welcoming me and your response :)

I'm so happy to have found this site and I love looking at the pictures too... Hehe so is his full first name "Jackdoodle"?

This info. is good to know and I will try and find the Pure Bites and use as treats-

I hadn't done the math yet but good to know me Jack is 10 weeks tomorrow-hehe

Thank you soo much... Jackdoodle is Handsome :)

How much does he weight?

Yes, his full name is Jackdoodle, and we call him JD. Actually, since he is the official DK attorney, as well as the President of the Naked Doodles Club, his full name is "Jackdoodle, J.D.", or "JD, J.D." for short, lol.

JD is 12 years old and has several health issues, so he's currently down to 70 lbs from his normal weight of 80-85 lbs. I adopted him from a shelter when he was 14 months old, and he's been a very sweet dog from day one. I hope you enjoy your Jack as much as I've enjoyed mine. :)

Wow.

What an amazing story he has! I do love his name too they are all super cool ...

He looks really good-I was browsing his pictures in between work :) Desk job-->I'm good...

You've had him for many years.

I think I've got an ok grasp on some things and will lol my way through the rest... Looking forward to this adventure. My at home children are 7 and 9 and there loving him up too...

So honored to have met the President of the Naked Doodles Club :)

Your Jack is so cute! I love him! He's going to be gorgeous!

Thank you!

:)

Yours are adorable too! What kind are yours?

They're both goldendoodles. Ava - the apricot is a standard F1 and Katie - the black one is a mini F1b - and she's Ava's daughter. I was lucky enough to be able to adopt Ava after her "breeder" (I use the term loosely) retired her last fall. They are the loves of my life.

Nice.

It's so amazing to me that you have mom and daughter-

how lucky they are as well :)

I can see a lot of curls on Katie :) I love curls and am hoping Jack becomes a curly huggable giant.

I believe there was like "a moment" , "the moment" I held Jack for the first time. Which was last Saturday-hehe

LOVE

HEHE I believe I saw a pix of Ava in your pictures wearing a pink swimsuit? hehehe

Katie is very curly! And she looks like a total puffball after she's groomed. She's a great hugger. And that swimsuit on Ava was her post surgical outfit. She had to wear that for a long time. We had a terrible experience with her spay. But she's all better now.

There is always that moment, isn't there? It's like you just know that you're meant to be together.

Yes- that moment :)

Well I'm sorry to hear that she had a terrible experience- I have to say adorable in that pink swimsuit.

F1Bs like Katie typically have the curliest coats because genetically, they are 3/4 Poodle. :)
