This afternoon Cocoa threw up and was a bit listless. When I checked on her she felt damp around her mouth and on her front legs.. I tried to get her moving a bit to check on her and she was having trouble walking. She threw up again. I rushed her to the vet who had me take her to the doggie hospital. It seems that she ingested something toxic. She was drooling like crazy (thus the wetness), listless and couldn't walk well when I took her in. Her blood work came back normal... so it a neurological reaction to something. I am so worried about her. I can't imagine what she ate- my house is quite safe because I have 5 year old twins. We never let her outside unsupervised. Of course, she is 5 months old and eats everything in sight. Has anyone else had this happen?

I am so sorry about what happened to Kramer- it must have been so heartbreaking. That is so tragic that the vet focused on Parvo when it was poisoning all along.

Every morning I am going on a mushroom hunt to make sure that there aren't any out in the yard. Since we put in new sod a couple of months ago we have had a real mushroom problem.
Keep us posted. I am sure you were scared!
Glad to hear she's feeling better. It's a good thing you were home with her when it happened, whatever "it" was.
Oh, I'm so sorry about Cocoa. I'm sure it was a long, horrible night for you. I'm glad she's doing better this morning. Hopefully she'll come home today and you can give her lots of hugs!
I'm glad poor Cocoa is feeling better. Please keep us posted on what you find out.
I just saw your post, and am glad to see that Cocoa is doing better. There's nothing scarier than when one of our babies gets sick.
Leslie, after thinking about this for a while, it occurred to me that vomiting and staggering are two of the signs of antifreeze poisoning. If Cocoa was eating something in the front yard, is it possible that she had access to the driveway? Even a few drops of antifreeze can cause a serious reaction, even death if you don't get them treated quickly, and antifreeze is very appealing to dogs. Even when we know that our vehicles are not leaking antifreeze, we can't know about service people's vehicles, the Fed Ex guy, etc. Just a thought.
I thought about antifreeze too, Karen, but I don't think there were any puddles in the front yard and she was only out for a few minutes playing with the neighbor's dog. I noticed a couple of guys (handymen) at our neighbor's house working yesterday. Perhaps they were there a few days ago and left something out? Cocoa knows we don't like her to snack around outside, so she has (of course) learned to snatch things up pretty quickly!
I hope that it wasn't antifreeze, but just for everyone's future reference, it only takes a few drops of antifreeze to poison a dog. It wouldn't take a puddle.
I'm glad Cocoa is better!
Well, Cocoa is finally home- I am so glad. I brought in some of the mushrooms that are growing in our lawn and the vet is taking a look at them. She said that we may want to put a muzzle on her if she keeps eating everything in sight. I'd rather not... but I sure don't want something like this to ever happen again. She is now on a bland diet until her tummy has had a few days to rest.

Awww, didn't know that Cocoa was sick, but am glad to hear that she is home and feeling better. AND just look at the cute nurse she has to take good care of her. Just keep an eye on her and like the vet said you may never know what she got into.
What comes to mind for me is chocolate? Just a thought. Anyway, glad she is better!
