Bella was spayed on September 15 and did well without any complications.  On February 11th I had to make an emergency visit to the vet and not the vet I normally go to or the one who did the surgery.  Bella seemed to have a bladder infection, and was put on antibiotics.  The strange thing was her nipples were swollen and so was her vulva.  Some of the research I have done says she may have some retained tissue from her surgery but the vet says her surgery was routine with nothing out of the ordinary.  What do I do next?  See if the same thing happens in the next 4- 6 months and if so then what?

From a brief search on the web even spayed females can have false pregnancies, so maybe this is a possibility.

I will keep that in mind...Thanks.

Did the Vet remember to take the ovaries out with the uterus?  She sounds like she is in heat.

Well, they say they did, and I am sure they will not admit to making a mistake.

I would think it possible to draw blood and see if she has estrogen in her system.  In humans a small piece of ovary will produce hormones.  If this happens every six months I sure would be suspicious!!

The vulva swells when females are in heat....  I hope Bella is OK.  I would persue this with the vet that spayed her.

I sent them an email and have not heard back from them as yet.  I sent them the information about what is going on and when and if it ever happens again I am going to take her back at that time.

I hope everything is ok. I would for sure follow up with the vet that did the surgery-good luck

Think I may wait to see if it happens again in 6 months if so I will for sure take her back and see what they have to say then.
