Holly seems to have lost interest in her food. I know that this can be a normal thing for dogs, but her #1 motivation in life, her reason for getting up in the morning, going on walks, doing ANYTHING is food! She has always been extremely food motivated. She usually inhales her food so fast that we have trained her to stop on command, just to slow her down.
It started last week when I noticed she was eating significantly slower than usual. At first I was very happy, because like I said she inhales her food. I thought maybe she had just learned to slow down. This lasted for 2-3 days. Then Friday afternoon, I set down her food bowl and released her to start eating. She walked over to the bowl, smelled it, and walked away! I was in shock! My DH and I examined her mouth for sores or a loose tooth and found nothing. We checked the bag which luckily was still in the garage, to make sure the food wasn't expired. She was otherwise acting normal.
I was leaving for Las Vegas that night so my husband had her over the weekend. He said the only way he could get her to eat was by adding a little peanut butter to her food. Now this wouldn't normally be that big of a deal, but she has serious food intolerance and/or food allergies and gets terrible bouts of diarrhea and vomiting when she eats anything out of the ordinary. We don't give her any treats, we use her food instead.  She's also been on a digestive enzyme for going on 2 months which we give her daily. We tried to wean her off of it after switching to a grain free food with few ingredients (TOTW), but she immediately got sick so we've kept her on the enzyme.

I am just wondering if anyone else has had a dog go from being extremely food motivated to not wanting to eat. I can't figure her out! We have an appointment for shots on Friday so I'm going to talk it over with the vet and probably switch foods again (it will be the 6th time in 7 months or so), and hope we can find a food that she tolerates and likes. She's been on this food for approximately 2 months also. Thanks in advance for any advice or ideas!

Has the bag of food been open for a while? Is it possible the food has gotten stale or maybe moisture has gotten in? You could try a new bag, I find that Lucie is much more excited about the food when I first open a bag rather than 2 weeks later when we are finishing (but she has to deal with it lol).
Jack is the same, and I pour the food into air-tight ziploc bags and store those in an air-tight container; but he still gets more excited when I open a brand new bag.
Do you always buy the same flavour? Try switching up the flavours and see if that makes a difference. I sometimes buy the large bag of one flavour( I feed Fromms) and a smaller bag of another just for a little variety.
I find that my dog Bear's appetite shifts when my schedule changes. He used to inhale his food, whenever I offered it to him, well that was when I was working from home. Now he prefers to eat only after he has done a number 2, or exercised...that is only if I am going to be home, and in sight. Maybe it is anxiety?
Thanks everyone! We have a vet appointment tomorrow for shots so hopefully we'll figure this out.
Bella has recently done the exact same thing to us, I was just about to create a topic about it. She won't eat any of the varieties of Merrik any more, regardless of what we put in it. I've even gone so far as adding two tablespoons of peanut butter and mixing it in with my hands. Nada. We normally add pedigree canned food and started because as a puppy she didn't have many teeth and had a hard time eating dry food, when we tried to wean her off of it she stopped eating. Now regardless the amount or type of canned food she won't eat. It's nerve wrecking, she will only eat after three days of not eating and will randomly go and eat both meals (morning and evening) and then go back to not eating throughout the week. Although that is with great disgust, she gags the whole time. It got to the point that she wasn't pooping and when she was (after the day of randomly scoffing her food down) it was a sickly green color and a little runny and very small.

We brought to our vet and he acted like we were crazy. He blamed it on the heat (which didn't make sense at all... she's almost always in A.C. and we all like it that way) and said not to worry about it. He did every test imaginable (it was such an expensive visit D:) and found nothing. I'm going to switch food, which really sucks. There isn't many good dog food supply stores, as it was Merrik is only sold in one store in my area. We're going to switch to Blue, I think. If that doesn't work I'm not exactly sure what to do. She still eats, just not her food. She munches down the chicken/cheese/beef we feed her when training in the evening like its her lifeline. She also won't eat until there is LITERALLY nothing going on, I think its becuase she's afraid she'll miss something better (lol, not likely) and will eat once I go lay down in the morning (I work at night) and my siblings are sleeping or on the computer. It's very worrisome, but thankfully we don't have a dog with allergies or conditions as severe as yours. Hopefully things will be worked out for us both. Best of luck :).
