Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum
So I have a neighbor, right next door that has a small mixed breed dog of some type, He weighs about 15 pounds, He is an outside dog only.... He does not have shelter during the day and at night they put him in a crate in a screened in porch with a towel over it,
I have tried many times to get them to give me the dog so I could find a home for him, they don't really do much with him, when their child is at their house sometimes once in a while she plays with him.
Well I am now watching their dog and their bunny both outside which it is very cold for SC here.. As you guys know I am not flowing in the money to say the least but I returned a bunch of things to the store today that I didn't have to have and I bought their dog a doggie igloo home, it has a tunnel and then a round circle in it to protect him from the elements..
Here is the issue.... He is so skittish he won't come near me... I sat in the cold for an hour. he would smell my hands then run away. I took his gross bed that was in his crate and put it in the igloo alone with some towels, it has a bottom to it so it won't get wet and I tried to get him to go in there.
I put the igloo right where he always tries to hide which is behind their child's kitchen set.... anyway He wouldn't go in it while I was there, or come near me. so I made sure he had food, found some blankets for the bunny crate and covered it and left
I just went back to check on it, the little guy has pulled his bed and towels out of the igloo home.. There was a toy I see he put in there but he was not in there. His belly is wet from sitting in water today and it is cold out.
when I told the owners, who are my friends who are at the hospital having a baby that Jack bought their dog a home, the guy was like "why the he%% did you do that, now he is going to be a dumb a %% and chew the towels up and make a mess.
Anyway.....now I don't know what to do, did me trying to be nice to this dog cause more trouble at least in the crate he was locked in and it was covered with a towel, it is a very small crate but now I am afraid with his wet belly and not going in there, though I Know he was in there at least a bit because a toy is in there that he is now going to be stuck outside all night.
I don't know what to do, I tried to ask the owners but they don't care about him, they said just leave him.. I will go over early to make sure he didn't make any mess or anything for which he will be hit for... but do you think I should go try to catch him and stuff him in the crate or do you think he will get used to the idea that it is his home and he can have his own safe, warmer dry place?
I am so upset.. I so didn't have the money to do this but I can't let my dog outside to potty without hearing him and knowing it is freezing., it has broken my heart for a while...
What do you think, should I go put him back in his crate or what?

Great to see that photo and that he is using his new dry place. You are an angel but I understand that sometimes standing by and doing nothing is far more difficult than doing something to help. You are obviously very like you Mom, two kind hearts.
Thank you Jennifer....I will continue to pray for you and the "situation" next door....I am so glad he found his way into his new home : ) I wish all dogs in need had a guardian angel such as yourself.
Hi Jennifer & Jack.....It's been a while since I've had any free time to visit DK. In memory of Cali & Willie I will donate $100 towards buying this little guys freedom, just let me know. Here is a link to a Pom rescue.
Thank you so much. THey literally just got home from the hospital ten minutes ago.. they fussed at the dog for chewing his bedding. I just have to talk to the local rescue to get him the heck out of there. I can not take him at this point , I am highly allergic to him, he is not house trained, and he is skittish. I need to talk to the rescue group to try to see what my next move will be, I bet you anything if I offered $150 or so they would let him go in a second the thing is, my bank account is empty. LOL I used the last of what I had to buy him the shelter.
I am going to talk to them after I talk to the shelter, I don't want to take him and have no place for him to go.. and I have to pretend like he has a good home to go too.
There doesn't seem to be a rescue group in SC or anywhere near here for pomeranians.
I just reached out to the Palmetto lifeline, they think that they would be able to get him in a foster and get him house trained and ready to be adopted because those kind of dogs are easy to adopt.
I just made my first contact with them, I feel like a drug dealer.. I just text messaged him and said that my mom's friend is looking for a dog like yours where did you get him from and how much did you pay? He paid $125.00 for the dog...
I told him if he wants to make some money to let me know because the women would pay more then that for him! Praying I am doing the right thing.. He is not willing to surrender the dogs at this point... He just text messaged me back
The women said to go low on the offer for money and keep going up.. I have not offered any money yet but did say the women would probably pay more then 125. I could return the igloo and get the money back and pay for that but he is not willing yet... I know it is a matter of time before he does.. until then I will continue to sneak him treats, make sure he gets as much socialization as possible etc.
I need to find a place to hold him for three days because the rescue group has to have him medically cleared before they take him. I think my vet would board him for me in isolation until then.
I would do anything for this precious dog....Thank you all for the offers to help, if you saw how precious this little guy is and if you watched him shiver in the cold you would just lose it too.
I was told by Palmetto Lifeline which is the biggest rescue group here, they have huge buildings etc that according to SC law that dog is being cared for and they will not step in, which I already knew.
Anyway, thanks for the offers to help, I am a pretty persistent person when I believe in something so I will do my best.. right now I need to lay off because they are getting pissed that I am "caring" too much about the dog and they want me to stop talking about it so I will.
It can be a touchy subject. Just let me know. Will continue to look for updates.
Thanks Tina, THank you again for your kind offer, so far they are not biting but I know they will sooner or later.
he just text messaged me the name of the "breeder" where he bought the dog off of Craigs list.. UGGG patience is what I need and a better game plan so that when they do release him to me I have every thing planned.
I was very surprised that Palmetto Lifeline was so willing to take him being that he is not house trained and skittish but he does play with the kids in the backyard when they are around, he is very shy of humans.
I don't know why people do what they do...but I have a list of dogs in my neighborhood that I am going to try to help improve their lives..... some need toys, some needs dog beds etc. We have a lot of pit bulls in our neighborhood for some reason... I am not afraid of them at all, as long as Jack is not with me.
One dog at a time hopefully I can do something.
