Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

We have tried soooo many toys for our 6 1/2 month Golden Doodle but we eats through them and we have to throw them away. Any kind of rope toy with a ball in it, or a stuffed toy of ANY kind is out. He rips them to shreds. We even bought him one of those little "doggy tires" that are made of hard rubber and it lasted for a while but just noticed he has started tearing it up / eating it as well. It's gone to the garbage.

We have some nylabones that we likes (the white ones...if we give him the kind he can eat, they are gone in a day)....

Any thoughts on toys that will last? Does everyone else have the same problem we are having?

Are stuffed toys completely out of the picture?

Our guy is 19mos...

from 5mos to 10mos he was an insane chewer. nothing could survive. it eventually tapered.

your guy is most likely still in the teething stage. we went through a lot of billy stix. we used the braided ones, it gave him more of a challenge. he would demolish one in a few hours... and would not try to eat furniture or metal ( the braided pipe on the toilet was his favorite) my wife gave him some fancy chew treat a few times ( they were prepacked, maybe 4 for $6 ) and he chewed them to shreds in minutes.

after a while, he started to calm. we cycle in a new (white) nylabone ever other month. some stuffed toys are fine for months, others get wrecked in the first day. ( we also have a small dog, and the two can doubleteam a toy into pieces if they collaborate )

basically, it (probably) gets better... but for the next few months it's going to be just like it is now.

I love this discussion. This has been an issue with Bayley ever since she turned 6 months old. As a puppy, we bought her stuffed animals with squeakers, and she loved them, but then started performing squeaker-ectomies within 2 minutes of getting a new toy, so we gave those up. She just has never had an interest in non squeaking toys. But we once bought a Kygen Snake toy. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B003RQDQPU/ref=oh_details_o06_s00_...

This is a plush toy, comes with 3 squeakers or 6 squeakers, but it doesn't have any stuffing. The squeakers are huge and make the funniest sounds. My two dogs LOVE the snake, and will chase each other all over the house for it, and play keep away and tug of war. Occasionally a squeaker will get eviscerated, and eventually, after a couple of months, all squeakers will be gone, but in the meantime, it's a hoot. I laugh out loud watching the two of them play. I keep a new one on hand to replace when the old one dies.

I'm sure some dogs would have a hay day tearing into this toy, but I highly recommend giving it a try. For $7 it will be worth it for the enjoyment YOU get out of it.

The only toys Teddy cannot destroy are from Planet Dog, the ones that are rated 5 out of 5 "chompers". Teddy has this football: http://www.planetdog.com/ProductInfo.aspx?productid=15010000 he tore off the laces right away but the rest stayed intact. He has this world http://www.planetdog.com/ProductInfo.aspx?productid=ORBEE%20BALL and he tore off the continents but the rest is okay. This snowball is great: http://www.planetdog.com/ProductInfo.aspx?productid=10818000 and also he has the largest version of this ball which I like because it's too big to fit under the couch: http://www.planetdog.com/ProductInfo.aspx?productid=COSMOS The 5 chompers ones have lasted over a year and he plays with them all the time. Since Teddy does not usually eat pieces of toys I also let him have supervised play with less sturdy toys like stuffed animals that he loves to tear apart. We call it "3 minutes in heaven" when we let him play with a stuffed toy for a few minutes at the end of his walk. By the way Teddy is 2 years old and he has been destroying toys since 7 months old with no end in sight.
