New Flea & Tick Collar - Seresto by Bayer

Has anyone used this product? Says it last up to 8 months - can get wet - has no odor.  Bayer is offering a $20 rebate on it.

I've never heard of this product but it looks like it still has chemicals that end up on your pet's skin so other than not having to apply monthly, I don't know if there would be any other advantages over a traditional topical.  I couldn't find any reviews online about how effective it is.

I know, it still has chemicals - which I hate having to use but both doods, Lucy & Mac got fleas last year for the first time - I use Frontline Plus - usually apply every 6 weeks from April/May to Sept/Oct. I guess my question should have been - does it work in preventing fleas & ticks?????? I also checked online & couldn't find anything - thought maybe someone here has used it. I read it's been in use in Europe for a while & new this year here in the US.

My vet just started recommending Seresto. My neighbor just got it for her dog - it is too early to know if it is working. I have been using Advantix 2 but my dog still gets ticks. I pull at least one or two off her every week so I'm looking for something that would work better than Advantix. She has been vaccinated for Lyme disease but got it anyway. The ticks are the worst part of owning a dog. I want them gone!

Anyone use this product? Does it work for ticks? Any other opinions?

Would love to here after a few months of use if your neighbor is satisfied with it. I'm currently using FrontlinePlus & use to apply it every 6 wks - we've never had a flea problem until last year - I'm going to continue using it but apply as directed - every 4 wks! FrontlinePlus works for ticks as well as fleas - we walk nature trails (tick infested here in NJ) & didn't have any issues with ticks - just fleas!!

My vet recommends Seresto too. They have been trying it out on their dogs (one vet lives on a farm) for the past year and have had no ticks or fleas.  I think I might try it unless someone has a bad review....

Oh and it has NO odor - I have smelled it on one of the vet cats.

Just heartworm is separate.

 

I am hesitant based on Karen's comments. But it does work. Ugh just don't know. Frontline is losing its effectiveness. Mine have gotten ticks lately.

What bothers me about flea collars is having those chemicals around their necks all the time. In the olden days (last century, lol), we didn;t have the spot-ons and used flea collars. But i remember hearing that it was not good for them to be inhaling the chemicals all the time. I don;t know if that happens with this new kind of flea collar, I would want to know how it works first. If it's repelling fleas, wouldn;t that mean the dog can smell or inhale something all the time, even if we can't?

Info from the EPA on flea collars. I don;t know if this applies to these Seresto collars, but if so, I would rather not have a continuous exposure to the chemicals "leaking out" 24/7:

Well, with Frontline the dogs have awful chemicals absorbed through their hair follicles so in the end you have to choose your poison. But we do need more reading on it. As to reactions, I'm sure there are plenty to Frontline.

I know, it just seems like with the Frontline, the chemical is absorbed after a day or two and is not hanging around in the air around your dog's nose and mouth all month.

No, I think it lingers in the follicles but for sure it lingers in the dog or how would it work?
