New flee and tick med called Vectra 3d

Has anyone started using this? My vet said she wants me to switch to this but I didn't have time to talk to her about it in detail.. Has anyone switched? Any troubles with it?

I don't know anything about Vectra 3D. We just switched to Comfortis because Frontline Plus did not work on my two doodles any longer. They had both been on it since I got them last year, but suddenly in November it stopped working. I live in the South, so I need flea meds all year long.

Our vet also wanted us to switch to Vectra 3D. We have tried it and it has made Taffy itch a little bit more than the Frontline Plus did. It only seems to itch right where they put it on her skin. I have been checking her skin and it isn't red, so I think it will be fine. We will continue to use and see if becomes a problem. I think the next time we are going to try and have her groomed a few days after we put it on and see if that helps with the itching.

We've been using it now for about 6 months. My vet is carrying it and frontline plus still. He wants us to switch between the two every 6 months or so so that the dogs are exposed to different medications and not always the same chemicals. I like it and it seems to work well. It is a few dollars cheaper too!

Ok - Don't like to be an alarmist, but we had a frightening experience today after administering Vectra 3D We have two doodles and a shih tzu - all have been on the Vectra 3D for a while. Although they all seem sluggish and droopy the day we apply it, by the next day all has been well. Today I applied it to all 3 dogs and within about 15 minutes, our larger (55 pound) doodle had what appeared to be a seizure. He started to run to catch a frisbee but stopped suddenly and laid down - his eyes looked glazed and his body was contorted in a stiff twisted way - his back mainly. When I told him to come, he stood up, but was having balance problems trying to walk, and laid back down - his breathing was very shallow and fast and his nose was dripping profusely. This only lasted a minute or two total, then he seemed ok. We waited a bit to make sure he was ok, then I gave all 3 dogs a bath hoping that it would lessen the effects of the Vectra. I went to the internet and read consumer complaints about Vectra as well as a couple of other flea and tick meds for dogs, and found that some had experienced very similar incidences. In the past, all 3 dogs have had thick costs, and just recently all were cut really short - so this may have had something to do with it - maybe some of their coats had absorbed some of the medication and now more was observed. I will start research tomorrow on alternative treatment for flea and tick prevention, but in the meantime, if anyone has any good ideas, please let me know!
