Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

Hi all!  I'm Leanne and new Mummy to our new 11 week Golden Doodle.

So today has been wonderfully terrifying.  We drove 2 hours to pick him up and the poor little fella was sick all the way home.  He was very docile and looked rather sad, but not anxious or nervous which I thought was strange.  He kind of took it all in his stride.  First things first once we arrived home, he had some water, which he was super grateful for after being so poorly in the car.  Then he had his first bath and I was pleasantly surprised at how calm he was.  Of course his little tail was firmly between his legs, but he didn't try to flee and wasn't bothered at all by the hairdryer.

The rest of the afternoon was spent exploring, having dinner and learning to take the step in and out of the house to the garden.  Very cute to watch.

He's now snuggled up fast asleep on the sofa beside me.  I've been a little concerned that he's so calm.  Never expected that.  He hasn't nipped or chewed anything (yet).  Excited to see what tomorrow brings.

I feel bad for the poor baby after he pees.  I wonder if he got a smack before he came to us because after he peed and pooped he tried to run away from me and hide his nose under his paws.  Broke my heart :(

He doesn't have a name yet.  I'm stuck between Arthur & Paddington.

Anyway, here he is.. I'm in love.

Thank you all for your lovely warm welcomes! Really happy to have found this brilliant forum.

So we settled on the name Arthur :-) he has really blossomed over night into a tail wagging pee pee machine hehe. He has had his appointment at the vet and got his first vaccines and a ehole load of other treatments which is great. The vet has said he's a little underweight which some of you guessed on this post so I have switched his food from what the breeder had him on and will hopefully have him plumping out in no time. His ears are dirty so will be cleaning those today and will be booking a groomer to come and trim his feet fur which is stained with pee bless him.

Last night he barked in his crate for about 20 minutes then soon settled until 5am which was fab. He was dry all night and peed in the training area in the garden first time. The kitchen floor has been his fav spot since lol. I smell delightfully like apple Detol! Hehe.

He's definitely came out of his little sad shell today which is wonderful. Feel so blessed to have him. Only concern today is his refusal to poop. He's had one after breakfast but nothing since and he's eaten a fair amount for lunch and in treats. How long can they go after eating before they should poop? It's been 4 hours since his lunch.

Thanks again all for your replies :-)
Did you completely switch his food? You should keep him on all food and treats that the breeder was feeding for at least 2 weeks and then make a gradual transition. If you completely switched over already and are giving different food and treats than he is used to then that likely has something to do with the poop problem.
Karen is our food guru and can offer you some great advice over in The Food Group:)
I've been mixing his new food in with his old. He's only had one meal so far with the new food added to his old food. This is what the vet suggested :-) as for treats, he was given crappy cheap stuff before :-(

That's good news!  Sounds like little Arthur's found a good mom :)
