Just wondering if anyone feeds Orijen and if so, have you experienced any negative effects with the new 80%-20% formula? We have been feeding Sunny Orijen since he was 7 months old and he's now 3 years old. He's always done well on it, but they switched their formula (from 70%-30%) recently, and he's been eating it for almost a month....with the most TERRIBLE gas. Like, makes your eyes water, gas. He used to eat Wellness as a puppy, and had gas like this as well, but the minute we switched to Orijen, it never came back. Now it's back...with a vengeance!

I don't know why they messed with a good thing. It was already an excellent pet food, the best on the market in my opinion, and now they just have a bunch of unhappy dog owners.

Just wondering if others have experienced similar, or other digestive problems with the new formula?

I guess it's just unusual for us. Sunny has always been such a food lover. Lately, he's even turned away banana and strawberries, which he used to do anything for. Just doesn't seem as interested in food these days. Very bizarre for him! He's only 3.5 yrs old...

Hubby went to check on him at lunch, and he didn't even greet him at the door. He was sleeping in another room, and came sauntering in after a few minutes. Also very odd for him. He's always waiting at the door, tail wagging. So, maybe his energy levels are down. He hadn't eaten his breakfast yet. Hubby tried to give him some, and he ate it from his hand. Then decided to eat the rest from the bowl...this just is odd for him. I can't help but worry. He's not himself, it seems. It's also been raining here for 4 days straight. Wondering if that may have something to do with it....the dog just needs some vitamin D! :)

Karen, how do you switch up the formulas without having the dogs end up with loose stool?

Most of these foods are designed to be rotated, and there shouldn't be any problem, especially if you stay with the same brand. If you think about it, anyone, human or animal, who is used to eating a variety of foods, doesn't get loose stools because they eat something different every day. it's only when dogs eat the same thing day after day for months or even years that they have digestive issues with eating a variety of foods. Switch formulas with each bag. I actually do something very extravagant, because I'm nuts and JD is my baby...I buy the 5.5 lb bags and switch "flavors" with each meal.

It really does sound like something else is going on with Sunny, unrelated to the change in Orijen's formulas. If he's not interested in other foods like fruit, which he always liked, and his energy levels are low, he's not taking notice of comings & goings, etc., I think I'd have the vet take a look at him if his general mood doesn't improve in the next day or so. Hope he's just down in the doldrums from the rain.

Well, after a couple of long walks in the rain, his energy levels seem up and he seems to be back to his old self. At least from an energy perspective. But, still no interest in the food. He will eat the red meat formula, but not on its own. I sprinkled a little parmesan cheese on it the last few meals, and he gobbles it up. But on its own, he will sniff it and walk away from the bowl without eating a single kibble.

It's shame, because we haven't seen or smelled ANY gas at all with the red meat formula. And his stools are perfect. So it's agreeing with his system, but sadly, he has no interest in eating it.
