Thank you, it never hurts to reiterate important information!..and just so you know, there is a discussion under The Food Group that is updated often with current recalls..I will attach the link!

Thanks for the post.  I think that a lot of us here have learned that the safest way to buy treats is to stay away from treats that can be found in Target, Walmart, etc. and to only purchase treats made in the US with ingredients sourced in the US (you have to be careful because a lot of bags will advertise "Made in the USA" but the fine print tells you that the ingredients are from China.  When I first learned that it is best to only feed treats made in the USA, I had a whole drawer full of awful treats that I had to throw away but I would rather waste the money tossing that stuff out than worrying that it could make my guys sick.

Thanks for the dog treat link! I bookmarked that one. I had been searching for some homemade treats to make. I just finished my first batch of homemade sweet potato treats last weekend and am ready to take it up a notch... a TINY notch as I am NOT a cooker!

Here is our very own Homemade Dog Cookbook here on DK

We only make our own and we have never looked twice at the mess of these recalls!

Join us.  Enjoy and I promise you,  your dog will too

Or, if you do not want to make your own we have a few great cooks here on DK.

Look up, Nina, Phil, Harlow, and Lacey.   So makes great treats to mail order

DH had to pick up raised dog bowl for the girls for our Florida apt. He came back with chicken chips. The first words out of his mouth when I saw them were "they are made with US chicken breast" - it is written right on the front of the package. Guess he does listen to me

You can actually get safe truly made in the USA dog jerky though.. I just found a place.

hahaha good DH!

I found this company. I am very excited about them... They are out of SC. I spoke to the owner myself today. All his jerky for pets is fit for human consumption..... He has Beef, Chicken and Tilapia Jerky...... The beef and chicken come from local sources, the Tilapia is from China and Chili but the are just caught and frozen and have some sort of certificate of guarantee , then sent back to this company. He actually skins them and slices them there.

He is a small family business that lives close to my mom's house.....He sells human jerky as well but is phasing that out. When I spoke to him today he said he started making pet jerky for his friends dog that got kidney disease eating treats from China.. now he is in such demand he is phasing out the human jerky and going just with pet jerky.

He was super nice.. gave me his cell phone number and said he will be putting more products on the market soon..  I have no vested interest in his company and don't receive a referral discount.. I wish LOL but I just strongly feel it is important to  support companies that have integrity in making pet treats....

I am bound and determined to support good companies. I want to be able to direct people to a good place to get alternatives instead of telling them just not to get treats from China . His prices are cheap and when I told him that... and that I have paid nearly double for similar products his response was " we are a small family company and we just want to do right by our customers, we are not looking to rob him"

No preservative only single ingredients... They take the food dehydrate it for 10 -14 or so hours he said depending on the weather and then smoke if for a few hours.

Just want to share any good news I can about safe pet treats...

Yeah I personally don't feed kibble - my girls eat raw.  But I do use Blue Buffalo (or another made in USA high quality) grain free kibble as training treats, because it's just easier than chopping up raw meat every time we go for a walk - much easier on my clothing to put kibble in my pockets than raw chicken pieces!  I know there are a lot of new puppy owners here lately.  Most seasoned DKers know full well about the "Made in China"  dangers...

Thanks Jen, thankfully I do not buy the products that have been recalled.

The Kasel Industries recalls involve  "Boots and Barkley" "Nature's Deli" and "Colorado Naturals". Again,  these products are mainly sold in places like Costco, Sam's Club, Walmart,  Target, etc. It is just not safe to even look at any edible products  for your dog in these types of stores. Buy paper towels and socks there, not  food or treats for your pets.

We have had FG discussions about Kasel Industries in the past. In this case, the products are not sourced from China, they are U.S. sourced and made, but the facilities are filthy and contaminated with salmonella.

that's awful!!!  they are US made and still causing this now i feel like i can't trust anyone!!!!
