Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

Hello Everyone:)  I am new to this site. I currently do not own a Goldendoodle, but hope to real soon!  My husband and I are in the process of finding a reputable/trustworthy breeder in the Northeast (CT,NY,NJ,PA,ME,NH,VT,MA).  We have been doing quite a bit of research online, but we are finding that a lot of the information is confusing.  Not sure how to tell if a website is legitimate.  I would love some recommendations or to hear your positive experiences...Thank you in advance:)

First, please read What to Look for in a Breeder. This will give you basic guidelines and the minimum criteria that you should use in evaluating a breeder. If anyone cannot meet these guidelines, look elsewhere.

The article also gives you links to the Owner Recommended Breeders group and some other resources. Even if some are not in your area, look at the websitesd anyway, to get a feel for what a legitimate breeder's website looks like. Reputable breeders' sites often have links to other reputable 'breeders sites. Use the other links in the article as well, for the breeders' association websites. The worst thing you can do if you do not know what you are looking for is to do a google search for something like "Goldendoodle puppies NY". You will get every puppy mill and BYB ad out there.

If a breeder's website does not mention genetic health testing of the parents, run, do not walk. Parents should be pictured and all health testing should be mentioned for each breeding dog. Hips, eyes, heart, whatever testing was done.

Stay away from ad sites like "Next Day Pets" and "Puppy Find" There are no legitimate breeders advertising on multiple listing sites. Period.

Stay away from any breeder that lists multiple breed mixes and things like Cavapoos.

When in doubt, Google the breeder's phone number. If you get all kinds of ad sites, move on. You may also get other kinds of puppies being sold by that same breeder under a different name with the same phone number. Move on there, too.

If the prices are well below what reputable breeders are charging, run. If anyone is selling any type of doodle puppy for less than $1200, be very very suspicious. Most minis and higher generations are going to be around $1800-2500 from a responsible, reputable breeder.

And remember that good "research" can never be done on the websites of those who are selling the products you are researching.

Good luck in your search.

PS: The DK Guidelines do not permit breeder recommendations or reviews here in the forum. People can PM you with info if you accept a friend request, or they can leave a message on your page. Keep in mind, however, that most people love their puppy and therefore love their breeder, even when it turns out to be a puppy mill, lol, so personal recommendations don't mean much, especially with young puppies.

We have been to the our breeders house.. Iknow ours is not a puppy mill. I left you a message.  Lilly is an F1B 3/4 poodle and 1/4 golden retriever about 15 pounds. Lolly is an F1 which is 1/2 poodle and 1/2 golden retriever. about 20 pounds. I left you a message on your page. I went through what you are going through 2 years ago at this time.  Proud of you for doing your research for your new baby.
