Am I correct that if you take these classes when you're done and you want to compete, Doodles really can't? They can't because they have to be AKC registered? I see some of you do compete in these things. What do I look under to try and find competitions that Fergie and I could go. You know, those AKC people are quite snobbish aren't they? I think they are just afraid we'd whip their butts!

Jane - thank you so much for all your help. I'm going to check this all out. Fergie does seem to love the obedience thing. My teacher says she is trained clearly past the beginner stage but it's good for her. We will go on to intermediate. And see where that takes us. I like it better than agility because I think it will be all skills that are used everyday. It will make them just that more of a pleasure for everyone to be around.
I also forgot to say that I will not register in anything that makes me lie about what she is. Anyway she really looks like a doodle. She does not look like a golden or like a poodle. That would be crazy. I'd be feeling horrible at any competiiton I'd be at. I'm proud of her being a doodle. It's kind of like Obama walking around saying he's black and forgetting all about his white side. (Oops, I didn't say that).
I too had wonder how they had gotten there Doodles registered with AKC. I have a couple of AKC dogs and know that AKC has has decision on allowing mix dogs. They would only be able to do a few things. Charlie is register with UKC. My DSIL suggested that I register him with NADAC. She has her AKC dog register there also. It really gets down to what you
want to do and what is happening in your area. AKC people can be quite snobbish even if you own an AKC dog. I spent
two years showing. I learned so much....that I have quite showing in confirmation. I have been known to tell people that
my AKC dog gives me a headach and all I get from my non-AKC dogs is LOVE.
There are other venues and things you can do with AKC depending on where you live.
As snobby as AKC is... I think it's FAIR that AKC events only allow AKC dogs...after all it IS THEIR club.
I think I'll end up registering Halas with UKC. I don't know if we'll ever do a traditional obedience competition, but we may get into Rally obedience. I think they have quite a few other things to offer, too. I wouldn't want to lie about Halas just to get him registered with AKC. If I was that concerned about the AKC, I wouldn't have gotten a doodle to begin with. I'm proud of his fluffy, hybrid goodness, so we'll stick with clubs where we're welcome.
