This is for those of you who are interested in seeing what a 10lb tumor and spleen looks like right after it was removed from my Rottie. If you can't handle gross looking things, PLEASE DO NOT look at Pics below. These are pictures of Magic that were taken on Sept. 2, 2001. They had to remove her Spleen because this 10lb. Tumor attached itself to her spleen. Had this burst, she would of bleed out and died. She was 11 1/2 years old when they did this surgery and she lived another 2 years, and had to be put down on Dec. 7th, 2003, because of a rare disease.

What kind of tumor was it?
I have the pathology report, just not sure where I put it, but I do recall something about the name my Vet had mentioned...because my son as a kid loved watching Heman, Hemanoma something like that. I know it was benign and she had to have blood work done repeatly for her iron levels. One of the Vet's who operated with my Vet... came up from the University of Pennsylvania located in Philadelphia PA and I remember being told that if the other organs looked dark in color Magic probably had cancer.
I would guess she had a hemangioma, which is a benign tumor of blood vessels.
Hi, i am VERY interested in talking to you about this post. My dog just recently got diagnosed with a spleen tumor, they say its the size of a volley ball. They dont want to do anything about it, but i refuse to believe it. I would really love to talk to you about your situation.

Did you know whether it was begning or malignant before removing? Did it attack the other organs?

can you email me at lsardin1973@yahoo.com so we can talk more? Please, i would really really appreciate it.
I will gladly respond to this in an email...but you also need to know you need to respond to this tumor A.S.A.P. Did your Vet say why they won't do anything about this...how old is your dog, is that the reason why they won't remove the tumor, or another under lying health issue..., From everything I was told at the time and understood ...this needs to come out "NOW"...if this burst your dog can bleed out. I would take my dog to another Vet. After Magic's Tumor was removed they sent a piece of it to pathology at the U.Of P. and it came back begning, No cancer. My Vet and the Vet from the U.Of P. said they didn't see anything where it caused any other problems to other organs except the spleen when they operated, I also remember my Vet saying if the other organs didn't look right and were blackish in color, Magic would have had cancer and they would have to close her up and put her down during the surgery. I would be making another Vet look at my dog, if my Vet didn't want to do anything.....Don't wait ...
I had a dog that had one of these years ago. The vet said it had to be removed, that in all likelihood this type of tumor was usually dangerous. I did have it removed and my dog lived several more years....
