Anyone else on the East Coast about to get smacked by Hurricane Irene? I live in Portsmouth/Virginia Beach, Va and it's coming for us! My husband is currently in Boston for is Physician Assistant interview so I'm home alone. Thankfully my parents are in the area but I hate this time where I constantly check the weather updates trying to make an educated decision on what to do. Prior to Irene threatening to make an appearance, my husband was supposed to drive into town on Friday evening; sleep and rest from the drive on Saturday and then he and Brinkley were going to take a road trip to to TN to visit his parents. I was originally supposed to go until DH's interview got schedule right in the middle of when we had originally planned to drive to TN. Now I think DH is going to swing into town Friday night and leave in the middle of the night Friday/Saturday early morning.
I really wish Irene would go out to sea! Anyone else making preparations for this beast?

You just never know. Three years ago, Ohio got Hurricane Ike. YES, Ohio! The storm traveled 80mph, NNE from Texas and slammed into us here in NE Ohio. Roads closed, trees down, and we were totally off guard.
We were without power into the 5th day. The power companies had already sent the crews down south. No water, no electricity. I was fortunate to shower at work--finally.
The problem with this storm is FLOODING. Flooding causes more deaths and damage each year than any other disaster.
Hello everyone...
Just a "buddy check"......to see if all of my DK friends are safe and well?
All of you have been in my thoughts and prayers throughout the time of "Oh Irene"!!
Just an update....
We left New Jersey yesterday at three in the afternoon...hoping to miss the hurricane...driving inland on Route 81 and 78 to our home in South Carolina!
Thankfully the "well laid plans" of my DH were correct...and we had "smooth sailing"...or should I say "smooth driving" all of the way...and got back to S.C. at three a.m.!!
I just checked in with my brother...who is staying in our other home in New Jersey ...and things are looking better than predicted there...thankfully!
Heavy rain...downed branches from trees (our driveway and property has several)...closed roads...but so far our home is secure...the power is on in the area...and most important... there aren't any reports of accidents that he knew of!
The big threat right now in the Jersey and New York area is the flooding...so...prayers are still needed for the entire tri-state area.
I just heard reported that at least 3 million people are without power right now on the East Coast.
I'm now concerned for all of our DK friends in New York and Long Island...as the hurricane is there...and I've been glued to the Weather Station!!. As it continues up the coast...we will continue to to pray!
To All of My DK Friends...
My Heart...My Prayers and My Love Continues To Be With You and Your Families...
