Anyone else on the East Coast about to get smacked by Hurricane Irene?  I live in Portsmouth/Virginia Beach, Va and it's coming for us!  My husband is currently in Boston for is Physician Assistant interview so I'm home alone.  Thankfully my parents are in the area but I hate this time where I constantly check the weather updates trying to make an educated decision on what to do. Prior to Irene threatening to make an appearance, my husband was supposed to drive into town on Friday evening; sleep and rest from the drive on Saturday and then he and Brinkley were going to take a road trip to to TN to visit his parents.  I was originally supposed to go until DH's interview got schedule right in the middle of when we had originally planned to drive to TN.  Now I think DH is going to swing into town Friday night and leave in the middle of the night Friday/Saturday early morning.

I really wish Irene would go out to sea!  Anyone else making preparations for this beast?

I see Jane online but no one from Jersey or New York has signed on today.  Thinking of you all.  Waiting to hear how you all are.
I'm wrong. I do see a few from Jersey online now.  Good sign.
We're really lucky so far.  One third of the State of CT is without power, but not us...yet.  Our biggest problem right now is water coming into the basement.  We've got about two to three hours left before the worst is past us.

You just never know.  Three years ago, Ohio got Hurricane Ike.  YES, Ohio!  The storm traveled 80mph, NNE from Texas and slammed into us here in NE Ohio.  Roads closed, trees down, and we were totally off guard.

We were without power into the 5th day.  The power companies had already sent the crews down south.  No water, no electricity.  I was fortunate to shower at work--finally.

The problem  with this storm is  FLOODING.  Flooding causes more deaths and damage each year than any other disaster.

I always wanted lakefront property, now I have it!!!
Oh Anna, I've been worried about you.  Maybe Achilles could go for a swim???
Wow, our first pictures out of New Jersey..  Good to know you are okay.  Welcome Back
We are all fine, so far. Thanks! Just a lot of water. Achilles can't find a place to pee!
Oh boy anna!  i have been thinking of you!  Glad you are okay!  Poor Achilles!

Hello everyone...

Just a "buddy check"......to  see if all of my DK friends are safe and well?

All of you have been in my thoughts and prayers throughout the time of "Oh Irene"!!

Just an update....

We left New Jersey yesterday at three in the afternoon...hoping to miss the hurricane...driving inland on Route 81 and 78 to our home in South Carolina!

Thankfully the "well laid plans" of my DH were correct...and we had "smooth sailing"...or should I say "smooth driving" all of the way...and got back to S.C. at three a.m.!!

I just checked in with my brother...who is staying in our other home in New Jersey ...and things are looking better than predicted there...thankfully!

Heavy rain...downed branches from trees (our driveway and property has several)...closed roads...but so far our home is secure...the power is on in the area...and most important... there aren't any reports of accidents that he knew of!

The big threat right now in the Jersey and New York area is the flooding...so...prayers are still needed for the entire tri-state area.

I just heard reported that at least 3 million people are without power right now on the East Coast.

I'm now concerned for all of our DK friends in New York and Long Island...as the hurricane is there...and I've been glued to the Weather Station!!.  As it continues up the coast...we will continue to to pray!

To All of My DK Friends...

My Heart...My Prayers and My Love Continues To Be With You and Your Families...

OH MY GOODNESS!!!! THANK the Doodle Gods!  Our cable is BACK!  Whew!  Luckily we were one of the few who never lost electricity, but my cable -which means phone and INTERNET have been down until about 3 hours ago.  We too, just had many branches down and a leaky window, but all is well.  BUT in the blocks and neighborhoods around us look like a war zone with trees lying across the streets, a beautiful weeping willow just tumbled down roots and all around the block from us, and our neighbors around the corner had a tree that fell on their boat.  I worried for all of you so close to the water!  Glad to hear you all are fine!  I will need the WHOLE day tomorrow just to catch up!  Although I was far from on-line, I have been thinking of and praying for you all!
Glad you are safe. We were wondering in the other storm related discussion about you.
