So Ollie - age 6 months got neutered yesterday - they kept him overnight and we brought him home this morning and he is running around and seems to feel fine. He has staples that we have to take him to have removed in two weeks. He has no cone and no boxers covering his incision but so far - he hasnt messed with it. My dh picked him up so I didnt hear the drs instructions which sounded like - have him take it easy. Any one been thru neutering lately and have any more specific guidance?

his hip xray confirmed the diagnosis of hip dysplasia but fortunately only the left side is affected. I got a disc with the xrays and after he has healed from the neuter - will take him to an ortho surgeon here as my vet told me he himself only does a couple hip procedures a year and I want someone who does them more frequently. We will have to determine whether he is a candidate for a total hip replacement or if we should do a triple osteotomy. There are pros and cons to both. I will update more later. I have tried twice now to call the family breeder we got him from to at least notify them of the problem so they can check the parents etc but they have not returned my calls. Next I move on to tensely worded email!!!

I hope Ollie isn't in too much pain yet from the hip dysplasia. Maybe you can get him repaired before it causes bigger problems than he's already having. He's so young - you must be catching it really early. I don't know a lot about it, but catching it and taking care of it early has to save the dog some pain. I'm sure he'll recover quickly from the neutering. My Halas had to wear the cone, because he wanted to get at his incision, but we didn't have any problems other than that.
The biggest thing my vet told me to restrict was jumping on furniture, people, etc....I think it is hard to control them and keep them from running and playing after the first day or two. But good luck!
So sorry about the pending surgery. Keep us posted!
Bentley had been neutered a few weeks ago..and there was no real controlling his behavior...he was incredibily hyper..but I just tried not to instigate jumping and running around..and tried to maintain a calm environment..it was the best I could do...and everything healed just fine that way.
Poor Ollie, I hope he's not in pain, and you are able to get the hip problem resolved. Hugs to you both!
Rest and heal Ollie! Big brave boy!
There is a vet surgical clinic here in Southern California that I highly recommend. If you need a recommendation for your area, you might contact them and ask if they know of one close to you. Bev and Willy are members here. Willy just had hip replacement surgery. Go to Bev's page and ask her for details. She e-mailed me all about Willy's surgery.
Sorry about you and Ollie going through with all of this difficulties.... I hope everything works out....
Just got Finn neutered two weeks ago. He was supposed to avoid jumping and stairs and just take it easy. He did none of this and as soon as he got home, he started wrestling with Yankee. No harm done. He was fine in about 5 days.
