When I got Sophie last November she was on Science Diet. She liked it, ate and pooped like clockwork. I did not want to add any additional stress on her, but now that she has recovered from her eye surgery and we have had her for 9 months I switched to her to taste of the wild- prairie- she loved it when Abby's mom brought her a sample, and she didn't seem to have any problems. I switched it over slowly and noticed a bit more gas. Then, a week after switching, she developed loose stool for two days. I called the vet and he suggested Pepto Bismal; I followed his instructions and within a day it cleared up. For a week or two she has been fine. Then, I came home today and she was crying in her kennel full of diarrhea again- poor girl. Although there was some formed stool in her kennel. it was mostly diarrhea.

I have been staying away from rawhides and bones thinking maybe that was the cause, but now I am wondering if it's the food. She tolerated the Science Diet and pooped twice a day like clockwork for 9 months. Since starting her on Taste of the Wild, she has had this on again off again diarrhea.

I know the Science Diet food is not rated very high, and I really wanted to get her on something more nutritious for her, but she has lost a pound and a half or two pounds since switching her over and I'm just not sure if this is working.

My vet thought that there was nothing wrong with the Science Diet and thinks that it is a good balanced food, but understood and supported the idea of a more natural food if that was what I wanted to do.

Any suggestions about what you would do or food that you have had good experience with?

Absolutely; everyone has to make their own decisions, based on what they think works best for their dogs. We are always here to help and support you & Sophie.
I would go with Fromm ....if you check them out...they have a food that already has sweet potato in it which will help her, but when you switch over...do it very slowly....
You might want to try Natural Balance foods. They have Grain Free limited ingredient foods that may help. Sweet Potatoe and Duck or sweet potatoe and Venison-very good food, no grain, but good "binders" to help with the poops. It has worked well on a few of mine that dont do as well on other foods.
I went through several kinds of food before I found one that Yankee did well on. I threw out so many bags of food. He also had constant loose stools and it was on and off. I finally ended up with Fromm. I was never so happy to see firm stools.
