Well... just when I thought Tori was doing so well with friends coming over... she went BERSERK! when my son was out playing with his friend, so badly I had to leash her to get her attention... which, by the way DIDN'T work.  Instead, she tried to pull, and run.  She looked just like a cartoon character running in place.  As a result from either the in-place running or jumping on and off the window sill, she cut something on her back paw.... I can't tell what.  There was blood all over my floors (and window sill) and her back paw... I tried to wash it down and held it to stop the bleeding... It seems to have stopped mostly by now - from time to time I find a smudge of blood on the floor.  I did put bacitracin on it and wrapped it.  Is the bacitracin bad if she licks her paw later?  Hoping it stays clean now and doesn't have further problems... She really won't let me touch it, so I can't tell what is cut.

Camus has a pad that is split from a growth. His vet had me rinse it in a sterile saline solution several times a day and apply Bag Balm, which is like vasoline so it is greasy. So I bought a couple of pairs of infant socks from Target. They worked great. Of course he was not keen on leaving the sock on, but I sat with him for about a half hour each time I applied the Bag Balm and put the sock on, which was enough time for the ointment to absorb then I left the sock on until he finally took it off. Pads heal slowly, so to protect his paw he wore a bootie whenever we went for a walk or he was playing outside. In another discusion on dog booties, Kim told me her vet recommended (for a growth in the pad) soaking the paw in Epsom salts and it worked: "1 or 2 tablespoons of Epsom salts to 1 cup of water. The soaking sessions lasted about 2 minutes. We put one cup of the mix in a bow and another bowl filled with clean water - and we cleaned the salt off after it was done soaking." I hope Tori heals quickly...
Baby socks! What a great idea! Hopefully she will heal quickly. Thanks for the great ideas!
We used baby socks on our Springer when he had CCL surgery and we were supposed to keep the bandage dry and clean.
I forgot to mention that some of the socks are really cute and great colors too. Camus has a striped, camouflage, and Purple!
Oh Shelly...
The way you tell a story...make me laugh and laugh...
But...I am so very sorry that Tori hurt herself...
Christine has some Great ideas on how to help with this problem...and I'm so happy for that...
I'm so sorry that this has been a stressful time...and that Tori hurt her back paw...
We will be praying...
Ohhhhh.....poor Tori AND poor Shelly!!! Could she have "snagged" the dew claw? It's so hard to tell with some of these dogs....I know with Banjo....he's so furry just cutting his claws isn't easy....trying to FIND each one is a challenge! Hope Tori's paw is better today!
Thanks guys! You know how at the moment the slightest - "OUCH" on our fur babies is so traumatic??? I THINK and I am keeping my fingers crossed that she is ok... it did take a while to stop bleeding. Of course I couldn't SEE where it was coming from - and YES! Carol, she is furry... in great need of a grooming too! I think it was more of the bottom of her paw... are the 'dew claws up toward the back - like by her 'ankle'???? I'm just hoping it stays fine! I wanted to bring her to be groomed on Saturday, but not sure if it will be ok and not going to be irritated by then... I am SUCH a WORRIER! You guys should see me with my kids! My oldest is just starting to drive (permit only) but I am a total WRECK... he's planning on staying home for college next year which makes me a VERY happy mommy, but I'm thinkin' maybe he should go away so he doesn't have to drive to classes... I'm "sick", right!? LOL
Any way... thanks everyone for your help with Tori's BooBoo! (now do you guys know a good therapist for me?) LOL!
LOL! Oh Shelly...the best therapy is Doodlekisses!! Hope you get better fast Tori : )
You got THAT right! And sometimes we all just need our "fix" - lol
